The Brooklyn Brewery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. We are fortunate to be a part of the incredible cultural renaissance Brooklyn has enjoyed during the last quarter century. Four great Brooklyn artists whom we met along the way—Fred Tomaselli, Roxy Paine, Joe Amhrein and Elizabeth Crawford—have created special labels for our Silver Anniversary Lager beer. We are saluting our beginnings with a special doppelbock version of the Brooklyn Lager we introduced in 1988. This beer is re-fermented in the bottle and will taste great today or years from now. The original was inspired by the beers of 19th Century New York and Vienna.

Bottle. Pours amber with a finger thick off white head. Aroma is nice roasted malts with toffee, honey and bread. Full body with average carbonation. Flavour is sweet with roasted malts and grain, as well as an orange peel hoppiness and some notes of alcohol. Long balanced finish with grainy malts and lingering citrusy hops.

Hazy copper pour. Ale like. Large off white head. Hoppy and biscuity aroma. Citrus hoppiness. Flavor is very smooth. American hops AE present, but not overwhelming the medium bodied malt flavors. Clean but flavorful fruity finish. ---Rated via iPhone

Bottle from Vika enjoyed at home
Copper red, big beige head. Smell of dark fruits, plums, dust, hints of caramel and vinous aromas. Moderate sweet, dark fruits, darker malts and plums, otherwise quite clean. Moderate bitter finish. Very nice lager, very solid malt base, good flavors.

Slightly hazy amber brown pour with good offwhite head. Earthy, toffee, old white grapes/wine, caramel malts. Kinda like a highly carbonated, imperial vienna lager with belgian yeast. Biscuity. Didn’t really do a whole lot for me. But not horrible.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet (Vika), Oslo. Murky orange brown colour. Half-inch off-white head, settles as bubbly film, leaves some lacing. Aroma of bitter orange marmalade, resin, yeast, grass, hay, almonds, caramel. Medium/full body, soft carbonation, refreshing mouthfeel. Bitter-sweet fruity-resinous taste, well-balanced. Quickly fading aftertaste.

Bottle from Vinmonopolet in Valkedorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a dark-hued clear amber body with a coppery hue and a large, creamy off-white top, looking very palatable indeed. Aroma is grape peel, raisins, grains, caramel and hints of bread crust and straw. Taste is raisins, grains, red berries and hints of bread crust and burnt sugar. Medium to full body, medium carbonation. A bit watery in its makeup for a solid doppelbock IMO, and the flavor profile is also slightly tilted in the Belgian direction which could have worked out better. Nevertheless, a pretty nice and drinkable anniversary lager from Brooklyn.
