The Brooklyn Brewery is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. We are fortunate to be a part of the incredible cultural renaissance Brooklyn has enjoyed during the last quarter century. Four great Brooklyn artists whom we met along the way—Fred Tomaselli, Roxy Paine, Joe Amhrein and Elizabeth Crawford—have created special labels for our Silver Anniversary Lager beer. We are saluting our beginnings with a special doppelbock version of the Brooklyn Lager we introduced in 1988. This beer is re-fermented in the bottle and will taste great today or years from now. The original was inspired by the beers of 19th Century New York and Vienna.

Comes in a beautiful bottle, corked and caged. It pours a nice amber color, just hazy, with medium sized head, a thin layer of which is kept by a persistent perlage; it seems a bit overcarbonated indeed. Some aroma of stale beer, metallic, light esters. Smooth and dry mouthfel; it has some boring caramel flavor, traces of vegetables from the fermentation, ordinary bitterness, and light metallic impression in the end; also some chicory bitterness.
Not even close to a Doppelbock, and not good in any case.

On tap at The Rake Borough Market. Hazy amber colour lasting cream head. American hop aroma. Incredibly smooth and gorgeous and utterly wonderful. Wow. No sign of the alcohol. Just a beautiful toffee grapefruit drink. Amazing. Fresh as well. No oxidised hop. Wow. Pretty good.

Bottle at Bruce’s, London - big thanks to Jack. Pours lightly hazed golden-orange with a tight, creamy white head. Nose holds some orange and mango. Light to medium sweet flavor, further citrus character, some pine needles, light tangy tangerine, some alcohol kick. Medium bodied with fine, creamy carbonation. Decent boozy kick on the finish, dried citrus fruits, some dry pine needles. Not really a doppelbock but reasonably tasty.
