COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Try the new Brewmasters Reserve: Smoked Weissbock. Bamberg, the central town in the Franconia region of northern Bavaria, is home to one of the world’s most unique beer styles – smoked beer or “rauchbier”. The barley malt is dried over beechwood fires, taking on a smoky quality that infuses the beer brewed from it. Smoked lagers are common in Franconia, but there’s a further specialty as well – smoked wheat beer. Only the barley malt is smoked, while the wheat is malted normally. This gives the beer a lightly smoky quality which is a perfect complement to the fruitiness imparted by the weissbier yeast. These beers have inspired us to bring you something more special still – Brooklyn Smoked Weissbock. At the doppelbock strength of 8%, this beer is full-bodied and complex, retaining the light acidity of the wheat balanced against fruit. Underneath is the light beechwood smoke, making this a wonderful beer with to enjoy with food. The palate finishes dry and spritzy. Try it with any pork dish (especially barbecue), traditional Mexican dishes, robust seafood such as monkfish, and Chinese dishes featuring black bean sauce. Malt: German two row smoked barley malt, German wheat malt, Belgian aromatic malts, caramalt. Hops: German Perle ABV: 8%

Draft @ Capone’s (Norristown, PA). Cloudy orange-brown with a moderate off-white head. Nice wheat aroma with a bit of clove and some subtle smoke. Nice full body. Delicious wheaty flavor, with a bit of smoke and spice that compliment each other very well. Very tasty!

Draft at Dilly Deli. Not my favorite style of beer, but this was delicious. Golden to Reddish in color with a fairly substantial head. Not overly smoky - as I assumed it would be. Natural wheat and bananna are the flavors that stood out. Pretty thick body but very drinkable and smooth. Good beer.

UPDATED: FEB 23, 2007 Draft. Amber/ orange in color with small head. Wonderful aroma of wheat, plums, banana, and clove. The taste was the same with smooth mouthful and finish. Sweet but not too overpowering with some alcohol showing up as it warms. They have to bottle this stuff!!

Draft at Capone’s. Cloudy red/orange body with good size head. Aroma is banana, cloves, yeast. First taste is sweet with a ceral sweet bite to it. Sugary, complex flavor with alot of yeast in it that was not agreeing with me. The smokiness comes out later in the beer as it warms. Heavy carbonation.

Draft at Capone’s. Hazy coppery ruby color with off-white head. Aroma of bready malt, citrus, some smokiness, and some fruit. The palate was very creamy and smooth, with flavor notes of banana, citrus, and slightly rauchy caramel malt. This one was outstanding, and I wish I could buy it by the case.

On tap at Tyler’s in Durham. Absolutely gorgeous orangey red color with a thick and lasting slightly cream colored head. Strong banana nose with a bit of plum and subtle smoke. The smoke is also rather subtle in the flavor but compliments the strong banana taste nicely. A weizenbock in the vein of Aventinus with a slightly charred finish. I’ll have to make sure I get some more of this while it’s still available.

On tap. Poured a deeper and cloudy amberish color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of bananas, cloves, fruity, and a trace of smoke. Smokey meatiness in the flavor with bananas, wheat and cloves. Definitely more smoke in the tastes.
