3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 durhambeer (2396) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - OCT 8, 2009
On tap at Tyler’s in Durham. Pours bright, slightly hazy gold with white head. Nose of lively lemon, yeast, and hops. Lemon oil. Tastes tart, acetic, and like powdered ginger. Very dry. Good, but the dryness is overwhelming. A little puckering. Interesting.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 JCB (3798) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - OCT 8, 2009
On tap at Tyler’s, Durham. Medium gold pour with a nice head and pretty good lacing in the snifter. Soft aroma of lemon zest, hops, and mild ginger. The body is disappointingly thin, and things get a bit perfumey as you get into the beer. With more of a distinct hop profile - with spices in the back seat - and a better body, this beer could really be something. As is, a decent spicey saison.
4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 auerbrau (2952) - Peace Dale, Rhode Island, USA - OCT 3, 2009
On tap at Mew’s Tavern - Wakefield, RI. Aroma is just electric. A spark-filled, shimmering glow of meyer lemon zest, lime pith, strong mixed herbal tones, and a blast of raw, fresh hop greeness. Pungent and absolutely unique. Pours a suprisingly clear plain straw gold, with a heavy-lacing clean white head. Flavor is just as unique as the aroma. The strong herbal, citrus and floral qualities carry through, showing more of their hop origin. Lychee, yuzu, green tea, and alkaline soils bleed through. Just an amazing hop character in my book and something that melds well with the subdued peppery character of the yeast. I think the body of the beer falls short; it could really show some more of the rich pils or wheat depth that many Saisons use to complement the complexity of the yeast. Alcohols are minimal, but this beer finishes uber-dry. The completely unique hop character makes this beer a winner.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 CUJO (383) - Brooklyn, New York, USA - SEP 27, 2009
RnH: tap: pours a cloudy goldenrod, leaving a dry white head. I thought this was truly a delicious blend of opposing tastes: a sweet, sour, bitter brew, with lots of florals, citrus, lavender and hops on the nose and throughout the brew.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 thenick (766) - North Bellmore, New York, USA - SEP 26, 2009
Tap @ Rattle n’ Hum. Pours a hazy gold color with a medium-sized white head and a little bit of lacing. Aroma is earthy notes, Belgian yeast, slight citrus, spice (coriander?), and a little bit of hops. Taste is Belgian yeast, citrus, and spice up front, dissolving into earthy notes and a strong, unique hop bitterness at the end (I’m guessing that’s what Sorachi hops taste like). Deceptively smooth, more bitter than many saisons, but it works. It just works. Fabulous job.

Served on tap at rattle n hum with ThorTheViking. An execellent representation of the style. Light, fluffy, tart, and somewhat acidic. I was pleasntly surprised by this one. Some hay notes coupled with Belgian spice. Pours yellow with fluffy white head. Slightly hazy in appearance
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 OldGrowth (2104) - North Carolina, USA - SEP 22, 2009
Snifter @ Tyler’s Apex. Good aroma, sweet. Citrus, lemon. Peach, powdered sugar, herbal. Golden orange color, good head and lace. Bitter sweet flavor, lemon with other subtle fruits, little soapy, spiced. Lite body, smooth creamy mouthfeel, bitter dry finish. Nice brew very drinkable. Better cold, lost a little as it warmed. The first sniff seemed to have the most about it, but had enough all the way through to make it worth while.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TheCaptain (613) - Lancaster, Pennsylvania, USA - SEP 21, 2009
On tap in the Mews Tavern RI. Poured a pale lemon juice haze. Foam head with a smattering of lacing. Aroma of yeast and nutmeg. Palate was odd, watery and grassy.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Suttree (4452) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - SEP 21, 2009
Cloudy yellow, thin white head. Odd metallic smell, with some spicy, herbal notes. Flavor is also very nice - clean and crisp, with some citrus and some nice yeasty notes, as well. Odd beer, but tasty...

Draft at wholefoods fairfax. Pours hazy yellow with a slight hue of green and a thin white head. Aroma is Earthy lemon grass. Mouthful is crisp with big lemon zest and that earthiness in the background. Verry enjoyable display of the japanese hop!
