Tap at DLD ’10. Light yellow colored pour with a tall, frothy, white head. The aroma has notes of light fruit, lemon, white grapes, yeast and some faint esters. The flavor is light fruit, yeast, esters, chardonnay grapes, dry, floral, soapy and has a faint bitterness on the finish. Dry, medium body with high carbonation.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at DLD.
Pours a brilliant somewhat hazy straw color with a small white head and decent lacing.
Aroma is nice, with sweet malt, barnyard, and lemony and grassy hops.
Flavor is good and interesting. A nice Sorachi Ace hop profile - lemony, grassy, and floral. Pale malt, barnyard, yeast, and spice.
Medium-bodied with a crisp and dry mouthfeel.
A solid beer overall. Wasn’t sure what to expect from this one, but it worked well. Very drinkable.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled off the guest drafts at DLD2010. My girlfriend waited in line for like an hour to get this. Yellow pour with white head. Aroma of hay, minty hops. Some banana esters, and a lot of earth. Flavor is earthy, mushrooms, and these minty hops. Citrus, spice, lots of fruits. Pretty different and cool to try.

I’m a sucker for anything Japanese. I’m also a sucker for anything beer. Take the two, mash, ferment, keg, and voila: the Brooklyn Brewmaster’s Reserve Sorachi Ace.
I enjoyed not just one, but two glasses of Sorachi Ace at my favorite beer lounge, Vine & Barley in St. Lucie County. She was lovingly drawn into a Brooklyn Brewery tulip-shaped snifter; a finer vessel couldn’t be found, if I do say so myself. At first she appeared to be painted in light straw with soft brushes of white when the light shone upon her person just right. After a couple minutes to settle though, it became apparent that while not crystal clear, her body was clean and crisp with a smooth soft haze which bled upwards and inwards into a velveteen white head. Lace clings to her curved sides while a generous head settles into a lush blanket of white. The only downfall to draft beer is the super-cool temperature from which they must be dispensed, but some patience and ten minutes solved that problem. Dipping my nose into her cavernous depths, I am greeted by lemon and key lime, their skin being freshly ground against the grater. As their juices and skin gather in a fresh sticky pile, bright esters of lemon and key lime permeate the air and induce dreams of azure seas, clear skies, and a cool ocean breeze. Green grass bends under shimmering droplets of dew along with brussel sprouts, believe it, and accept it. As I wrap my nose and mind around her gentle bouquet, I proceed to wrap eager lips around her liquid bounty. Wow. Let me try that again… Wow. In procession, I am enveloped in bright and eager to please flavors of whipped egg whites, lemon bars sprinkled with powdered sugar, grains of paradise, coriander, softly blanched grains, fresh homemade white bread, and freshly squeezed key lime. Her mouthfeel is super-soft and screamingly bright all at the same time. Her palate is as vivacious as they come, and further quaffing ventures reveal equally bright and playful lemon skin, key lime gratings, and pith. A slow subtle dry finish lingers in the background, allowing the brilliance of palate to shine unhindered. Grains of paradise, white pepper, and coriander tinge my breath long after each quaff. Green grass, sunflowers, brussel sprouts glisten under fresh morning dew, their essence pervading the background. The soft blanched grains and fresh white bread add a touch of chewiness to her mouthfeel. Quaff and repeat. Wow. Forget the pen and paper; I am all over this beer like nori on sushi. Exquisitely delicious, refreshing, vivifying, electrifying, and I must have another.
The Brooklyn Brewmaster’s Sorachi Ace was the Sorachi Hop personified. All the aspects of a delightful Belgian-style Saison were there, but then the Sorachi Hop came in and changed everything in tantalizing ways I never could have thought possible. That’s understandable though, seeing as this is my first experience with this particular hop. From her nose to her palate, there is no doubt that the Sorachi Hop was a key player in this beer.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: MAR 6, 2010 Pours a slightly cloudy pale golden yellow color with a half finger frothy white head that slowly settles into a thin lasting ring. Not much in the way of lacing.
Slightly earthy, spicy aroma with hints of peppery clove, ginger and something else I can’t put my finger on. Crisp light fruit notes, mostly apple and pear along with a slight hop profile and subtle malt in the nose.
Lighter bodied with some earthy hops and zesty spice. Hints of pepper, ginger and corriander along with a slight metallic flavor which is kind of off putting. Slightly cloying with a long dry finish.
