Brooklyn Sorachi Ace is a classic saison, a cracklingly dry, hoppy unfiltered golden farmhouse ale, but featuring rare Sorachi Ace hop.Fermented with our special Belgian ale strain, we add Sorachi Ace hops post-fermentation. After 100% bottle re-fermentation with Champagne yeast, the beer emerges with a bright spicy lemon zest aroma. It tastes like sunshine in a glass, and that suits us just fine, especially with seafood dishes and fresh cheeses.

At flying saucer beerfest. Amazing aroma of lemon and spice. Clear pale yellow color with a nice white top. Extremely easy to drink, great for the summer, very refreshing. One of the best saisons iíve ever had. Cheers

The saison is a style Iíve never really been able to get into, unless itís an American version made with a lot of hops. Thatís certainly an apt deScription of Brooklyn Sorachi Ace - a beer brewed with the rare and unique hop of the same name originally cultivated in Japan but now grown in the United States. Itís also got the classic Belgian characteristics at the core, plus champagne yeast for a very interesting mouthfeel. The result is a citrusy, dry, earthy beer thatís refreshing and easy to drink.

I poured a 750ml caged and corked bottle into a tulip glass.

Appearance: Gold to pale orange color; hazy but translucent; forms a large, fluffy, beige head which mostly dissipates but does leave some lacing on the glass.

Smell: Big lemon notes with a lot of fresh air and other farmhouse qualities. A touch of pepper and some savory seasonings.

Taste: Strong hop bitterness right off the rip. Itís similar to what you might find in a West Coast IPA with noticeable lemon and orange pith and rind taste. Slightly tart, but at the same time quite dry from the Belgian yeast. Flowers, fresh air, and farmhouse funk all somehow translate themselves into flavors, too. The beginning is quite refreshing, but turns on a dime into a dry, almost starchy taste and sensation in the traditional Belgian saison style. It finishes with a spicy, earthy sensation. Ground pepper plus a hint of garlic and onion. Even a slightly bready maltiness - similar to the aftertaste of garlic bread. The finish is dry with a slight pastiness, but not overbearing. Itís a palate thatís as interesting as it is delectable. Not absolutely drop-dead delicious (at least not out of the bottle, Iíve had it on tap and itís much more juicy and sweet), but certainly impressive.

Drinkability: Since the beer is Belgian at heart and 100% bottle refermented with champagne yeast, itís not surprising Brooklyn Sorachi Ace has a lot of energy in the mouth. Itís a slightly thin body, but the carbonation is extremely fine and goes down very smooth. Itís also genuinely refreshing, which is impressive considering how complex and bitter the palate is and the fact it weighs it at 7.6% ABV. I had no trouble drinking an entire bottle myself, but it would work very well as the centerpiece of a picnic meal with friends.

Draft. Color is a hazy bright yellow, nearly the color of Lemon-Lime Gatorade. Mild retention. Nose is lots of citrus and a grassy hop. Real lively mouthfeel. Lots of tingle and action on the tongue. It is spot on the brewers deScription. Not much funk at all here. A wisp of it in the dry finish. Honestly, it doesnít remind me of a saison at all. More like a golden ale with a high end hop. Where is the farmhouse here?? Not bad but a real let down. Glad I got a short sample of this.

750 ml. corked and caged bottle. Pours a thick white, well retained white head, with some lacing, over a slightly hazy gold (SRM 6) body....nose is light lemon citrus, pepper, with light cereal....taste is light cereal, leading into pepper, dry throughout, but with citrus, floral hints, light lingering bitterness finishes.....mouth feel light of medium, alcohol hidden, carbonation high. This is a quite representative of the style. Appearance, aromas and flavors are all spot on and the result is an immensely quaffable, thoroughly enjoyable, complex summer beer. Which is exactly what a Saison should be. BJCP 7/3/15/4/8

Bottle from Systembolaget, Sweden. Big white lasting white head. Clowdy light golden color. Citrus aroma and some mono sodium glutamat as from chinese food aroma, also some dry typical Saison like aromas. Citrus taste with a light naltyness and small sweetness. Will go fine with seafood but litle too much alcohole for a good thirst quencher. Wery livly sparkling and medium body.

Aroma of dough, banana, pepper, gum and light citrus. Appearance is cloudy gold with white head. Flavor matches the nose with a slightly wet citrus finish. Palate is very bubbly and chewy. Tasty Saison.
