4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
The saison is a style Iíve never really been able to get into, unless itís an American version made with a lot of hops. Thatís certainly an apt description of Brooklyn Sorachi Ace - a beer brewed with the rare and unique hop of the same name originally cultivated in Japan but now grown in the United States. Itís also got the classic Belgian characteristics at the core, plus champagne yeast for a very interesting mouthfeel. The result is a citrusy, dry, earthy beer thatís refreshing and easy to drink.
I poured a 750ml caged and corked bottle into a tulip glass.
Appearance: Gold to pale orange color; hazy but translucent; forms a large, fluffy, beige head which mostly dissipates but does leave some lacing on the glass.
Smell: Big lemon notes with a lot of fresh air and other farmhouse qualities. A touch of pepper and some savory seasonings.
Taste: Strong hop bitterness right off the rip. Itís similar to what you might find in a West Coast IPA with noticeable lemon and orange pith and rind taste. Slightly tart, but at the same time quite dry from the Belgian yeast. Flowers, fresh air, and farmhouse funk all somehow translate themselves into flavors, too. The beginning is quite refreshing, but turns on a dime into a dry, almost starchy taste and sensation in the traditional Belgian saison style. It finishes with a spicy, earthy sensation. Ground pepper plus a hint of garlic and onion. Even a slightly bready maltiness - similar to the aftertaste of garlic bread. The finish is dry with a slight pastiness, but not overbearing. Itís a palate thatís as interesting as it is delectable. Not absolutely drop-dead delicious (at least not out of the bottle, Iíve had it on tap and itís much more juicy and sweet), but certainly impressive.
Drinkability: Since the beer is Belgian at heart and 100% bottle refermented with champagne yeast, itís not surprising Brooklyn Sorachi Ace has a lot of energy in the mouth. Itís a slightly thin body, but the carbonation is extremely fine and goes down very smooth. Itís also genuinely refreshing, which is impressive considering how complex and bitter the palate is and the fact it weighs it at 7.6% ABV. I had no trouble drinking an entire bottle myself, but it would work very well as the centerpiece of a picnic meal with friends.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Poured into a tulip out of a 22oz bottle.
Pours a hazy light straw yellow with a very fluffy, billowy white head. Globs of lacing clinging to the sides of the glass along with amazing head retention.
The aroma is typical of a saison but is very rich. Lots of bread and yeast notes along with a tremendous punch of citrus. A little mustyness along with some lemon and a touch of citrus. Very nice and quite deep.
The flavor is a bit on the light side but is quite nice. Spicy yeast esters along with orange peel and a touch of lemon. Some bread and hay along with grass. Some vanila finishes things up along with a drying finish and a touch of bitterness. Mouthfeel is quite dry with just a little bit of stickyness to end things up.
Overall, a very nice Saison with a twist. The sorachi ace hop lends some very nice citrus notes that compliment the Belgina yeast nicely. A good beer that is worth picking up.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
A golden and lively beer, a head is big, lasting, slightly cloud and blond. The nose is aromatic, fruitfull, mandarin, citrusfruits, fructose and exoticness of Sorachi. Taste of fruits, lemon and lemon zest, spices and herbs. Now the Sorachi is clearly on the stage, first time when I find a dill. Medium bodied, sparkling carbonation, that fitts nicely into sophisticated habitus, the drinkability is fresh. Quite straightforward but still interesting beer, nevertheless, even the big bottle can hold the interest.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle - quite a lovely-looking beer - hazy gold, very lively with a huge, thick, lasting frothy head - nose of pepper, lemon, pineapple, mango, honey, vanilla - medium sweet, but with a quenching acidity to it - complex tropical flavors, some vanilla, and even a hint of coconut - some honey, peppered mango, pineapple - medium dry, moderately bitter finish - interesting and tasty beer.

Pour hazy blond with low white head. Aroma is of fruits (estery), slight garbage juice, citrus. Taste is of fruits, citrus, honey. Palate: Light-medium body. Overall: Good. I dont believe the bottle was in very good shape. Not an outstanding saison at all. Still enjoyable but was waiting for more...

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle (750 ml). Clear golden with a medium mostly lasting white head and good lacing. Aroma is yeasty with orange/citrus, bubblegum and herbal notes. Taste is of slightly sweet and quite fruity (mostly citrus) along with floral notes and bubblegum again. Medium body. Good carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Well crafted, but not my favorite Saison. Maybe my bottle was too old or I just donít like Sorachi Ace hops.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Lemon and green tea aroma. Nice head size when pouring but does not last long leaving a small ring. Color is a yellow haze.Taste is dry with a medium bitterness that stays long in the back. Medium body with low carbonation. A long bitterness with a bad feeling. I like the aroma of the Sorachi Ace hop but not the taste of the bitterness. Ok beer but not enough for a second try. ;-(
