Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Summer Ale is a modern rendition of the "Light Dinner Ales" brewed in England throughout the 1800's right up until the 1940's. They were also called "luncheon ales" or even "family ales", because they were refreshing and flavorful without being too heavy. We brew our Brooklyn Summer Ale from premium English barley malt, which gives this light-bodied golden beer a fresh bready flavor. German and American hops lend a light, crisp bitterness and a citrus/floral aroma resulting in a beer with a very sunny disposition. FOOD PAIRING Excellent with salads, seafood, quiches, and lightly spicy dishes. It's also great at a brunch. SPECS Style: English Style Light Dinner Ale Malts: Two Row British Malts Hops: German Perle and American Cascade, Fuggle, and Amarillo Alcohol: 4.5% by volume Original Gravity: 11 Plato

20080717 12oz bottle Light golden color with lofty, lasting, creamy white head and plenty of clinging lace. Aroma is french bread, light herbal, light floral. Nice quenching mouthfeel, airy body with essentially zero bitterness, which was expected and welcome. What bitterness there is manifests as a quick finish. Great paired with this summery salad of fresh greens, radish, cucumber, and peppery vinaigrette.

a clear, very light summer beer. Slight flavor from hops, but not much from the malt. very neutral. I guess I could sit down and pound a few of these, but I’d rather buy a bitter or a hefe for a session of drinking. Doesn’t wow me.

I gotta say I’m disappointed with this effort, as Brooklyn seems do almost all styles well. Aroma is kinda grassy. Clear honey colored pour with a small head....laces well though. Bready taste with almost no hop bitterness at all.

very little bitterness, rather light, a tangy after-taste, refreshing on a hot day

12 oz. bottle pours slightly cloudy marigold yellow with moderate head. Aroma is wheaty and bread-like. Front palate is sour with bitter mid palate and bland mildly hoppy finish. Slight malty aftertaste. Overly carbonated for my preference. Watery and plain. Not one of my favorite Brooklyn beers.

12oz bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Pours a clear yellow golden color with a thin white head. Little lacing to the glass. Aroma is wheat, yeast, bread, red grapes with slight sour notes. Flavor is sweet and malty with notes of pomegranate and faint sweet citrus notes. Light to medium-bodied with slightly bitter finish.

Had this at McCarren park during an Armin Van Buuren concert- Brooklyn Brewery was there to provide beer. Light golden pour with a thin head. Not a strong aroma. Relatively weak taste that fits the lack of aroma. Not a very flavorful beer, but it is easy to drink. Their vienna lager is far better.
