Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Summer Ale is a modern rendition of the "Light Dinner Ales" brewed in England throughout the 1800's right up until the 1940's. They were also called "luncheon ales" or even "family ales", because they were refreshing and flavorful without being too heavy. We brew our Brooklyn Summer Ale from premium English barley malt, which gives this light-bodied golden beer a fresh bready flavor. German and American hops lend a light, crisp bitterness and a citrus/floral aroma resulting in a beer with a very sunny disposition. FOOD PAIRING Excellent with salads, seafood, quiches, and lightly spicy dishes. It's also great at a brunch. SPECS Style: English Style Light Dinner Ale Malts: Two Row British Malts Hops: German Perle and American Cascade, Fuggle, and Amarillo Alcohol: 4.5% by volume Original Gravity: 11 Plato

Clear, bright gold appearance with an average size head and a fair amount of lacing. Grainy, grassy aroma. Moderately sweet malt taste offset by late arriving, herbal accented hops. Light bodied, well carbonated mouthfeel leading to a medium length finish. Refreshing seasonal brew.

(Bottle (best before 10/07 (am somewhat surprised at this bottle’s date as the beer appeared to have just arrived on the shelves and sample looked/smelled/tasted fresh) from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/augusta/l target=blank>Lou’s Beverage Barn) Pours lightly hazy gold with two fingers of marshmallow-puffy white head. Aroma is peach-like, fruity with some floweriness. Smells almost like an IPA. Mouthfeel is slightly rough and pebbly but not bad, fullness is light-medium. Some fairly sloppy light rings and sheets of lacing. Flavor is fairly fruity and peach-like, like the aroma. Pleasant, refreshing taste. Light bitterness passes through in finish. A nice light summer beer.

Bottle. Pours clear gold with a white head. Aroma is biscuity/bready malt and fresh floral hops. Light, crisp body. Flavor is lightly sweet, with just enough bittering hops. Refreshing and well balanced.

A bit let down by the summer ale. A good color and aroma but has an everage taste, a bit of honey? Nothing too special, they make better beers.

Bottle: Dull golden, hint of haziness, large frothy white head, spotty lacing, light carbonation.   Grainy/Cereal oriented nose, musty.   Cereal like malts on the tongue.   Very minor sweetness, slightly dry, finishes clingy.   Not sweet sticky, but clingy on the tongue.   Not very crisp, but guessing that this one is a bit beyond its life.   Having a Summer Ale at the end of Fall... yeah.   Average body and mouthfeel.   Mealy finish, very minor sweetness, fairly clean.   I can see where this might be quite enjoyable during the summer, but as of now its pretty average.   Thanks Craig!

12 oz bottle purchased at the Asheville Wine Market in Asheville, NC. Best before December 2007. Poured a clear golden color. Head was white and dissipated to a lasting thin film in less than a minute. Aroma was of bready malt with the slightest hint of grassy hops. Dry on the tongue up front with delicate sugars at then end. Tasted of grassy hops and minimal honey-touched cereal grain. There was also a papery note that detracted a bit. Overall I say...eh.
