COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brooklyn Summer Ale is a modern rendition of the "Light Dinner Ales" brewed in England throughout the 1800's right up until the 1940's. They were also called "luncheon ales" or even "family ales", because they were refreshing and flavorful without being too heavy. We brew our Brooklyn Summer Ale from premium English barley malt, which gives this light-bodied golden beer a fresh bready flavor. German and American hops lend a light, crisp bitterness and a citrus/floral aroma resulting in a beer with a very sunny disposition. FOOD PAIRING Excellent with salads, seafood, quiches, and lightly spicy dishes. It's also great at a brunch. SPECS Style: English Style Light Dinner Ale Malts: Two Row British Malts Hops: German Perle and American Cascade, Fuggle, and Amarillo Alcohol: 4.5% by volume Original Gravity: 11 Plato

On tap at Lazy Boy. Vegetal nose, olives. Decent malt in the flavor, veggie hops are a little weird but a nice chocolatiness. Very drinkable.

This one grew on me. I din’t like it at first. I gave it a day and retired it at cellar temperature. You can really get a sense of the cascades, but especially the amarillo hops. Not a lot of malt. Even though it is a summer ale, I think it could use a little more malt backbone. The malt character doesn’t seem to indicate even a 4.5% avb.

Soft peachy-tangerine-toned body is topped by a small, but fairly well-retained white head. Plentiful carbonaton rising in the liquid. Slight lacing.
A plasticy yeast is what I find first and foremost in the nose. It’s very dry and perhaps I’m just mistaking this for wheat (though I see that there is no wheat in this, so I guess not). Fortunately a very charming, though somewhat mild hoppiness arises, full of tangerines, lemons and light splashes of melon. Dry, straw-like maltiness has touches of hay and honey, with a fairly classic barleyish flavor (just straight up two-row malt flavor). The dryness and definite crispness on the end are big pluses here.
Very light bodied, well-attenuated and with a lingering hop bitterness that further emboldens the refreshingness, the beer is well carbonated and has lots of graininess to it. Pinches of honey and light breadiness can be found, but the carbonatoin keeps the body sparse and the hops poignant. Refreshing and drinkable, if nothing unusual.

Pours golden with a fully receding white head. Aroma of citrus, wheat,. Taste is sweet with notes of honey and wheat. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly sticky with moderate carbonation. Not as ’Summery’ as other Summer Ales I’ve tried.

Bottle: Quite the creamy head. Deep and robust aroma, crispy citric bite to it. Somewhat surprisingly hearty character. Usually brewers make "summer beers" as an excuse to make watery and flavorless yellow beers for the non beer-drinking crowd. This is the opposite ... fully flavored, richly malty, yet with a nice bready, hoppy, citrusy flourish. Nice. (#2975, 6/12/2007)

Bottle. Pours frosty gold, thin white head. Aroma is caramel, vanilla, hops, coriander. Flavor is wheat, coriander, hops. This is more like an American wheat than a "golden ale/blond ale."

This beer pours an amber gold. It smells of grass and honey. It is very refreshing and it tastes sweet, hoppy and fades to wheat. A nice offering for a summer day.
