Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Summer Ale is a modern rendition of the "Light Dinner Ales" brewed in England throughout the 1800's right up until the 1940's. They were also called "luncheon ales" or even "family ales", because they were refreshing and flavorful without being too heavy. We brew our Brooklyn Summer Ale from premium English barley malt, which gives this light-bodied golden beer a fresh bready flavor. German and American hops lend a light, crisp bitterness and a citrus/floral aroma resulting in a beer with a very sunny disposition. FOOD PAIRING Excellent with salads, seafood, quiches, and lightly spicy dishes. It's also great at a brunch. SPECS Style: English Style Light Dinner Ale Malts: Two Row British Malts Hops: German Perle and American Cascade, Fuggle, and Amarillo Alcohol: 4.5% by volume Original Gravity: 11 Plato

Clear straight, not very bright golden pour. Initially beautiful white head quickly vanishes completely, leaving a highly effervescent liquid in the glass. Fresh malt aroma immediately evokes fresh bread. Minimal citrusy hop notions provide very little bitterness. Not necessarily very sweet, but definitely on the malty side of things. A very soft malt profile aimed fits the summer allusions very well. Medium bodied, gentle carbonation. Clean and very easy to drink, but not fun or remarkable enough to want another and another like the top English examples.

12oz bottle-pours a foamy off white head and gold color. Aroma is sweet/musty-grain/light malt, secondary (hallertau?) floral/spicy hops. Taste is sweet/musty-grain/light malt, secondary (hallertau?) floral/spicy hops, then some citrus-orange comes through. Mild carbonation. Thanks jwc215 for sharing.

Pours gold with a white head. Smells of floral hops, sweet malt. Tastes slightly toasty and floral with a crisp finish. Easy drinking.

Tap at Fette Sau. Listed as "Brooklyn Dinner Ale". Pale amber beer. Light minerally aroma and pale UK-ish malts. A light toastiness and a bit of fruitiness as well. Very subtle with light berries and a kiss of earthy hops on the nose. Warming brings up a light spiciness and a bit of woody resins. Hardly a mind-blowing beer, but it’s very well constructed, well-balanced and highly sessionable... just as I suspect was intended.

Draft at Olde New York in State College. Golden yellow amber color. Faint sweet nose of wheat, apricots, biscuity malts, light spices and faint and candy sugar. Sharp and just barely acidic, overall a bit sweet and mild, with flavors of star anise and sweet grains, but again overall it’s a farily light beer. Nothing too exciting.

This pours a bright yellow-gold body with continual bubbling and a modest white head. The aroma is at first sweet pale malt and honey, and then a wave of grassy & herbal bitterness comes to play. Light bodied and well carbonated, it’s flavor is a good balance between the malty sweetness and the light hop bitterness. A respectable Summer quaffer.

Bottle from River’s bend. Poured clear pale with an average frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Medium sweet fruity hoppy aroma. Medium body. Medium sweet flavor with a small bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations were met.
