Commercial Description:
Brooklyn Summer Ale is a modern rendition of the "Light Dinner Ales" brewed in England throughout the 1800's right up until the 1940's. They were also called "luncheon ales" or even "family ales", because they were refreshing and flavorful without being too heavy. We brew our Brooklyn Summer Ale from premium English barley malt, which gives this light-bodied golden beer a fresh bready flavor. German and American hops lend a light, crisp bitterness and a citrus/floral aroma resulting in a beer with a very sunny disposition. FOOD PAIRING Excellent with salads, seafood, quiches, and lightly spicy dishes. It's also great at a brunch. SPECS Style: English Style Light Dinner Ale Malts: Two Row British Malts Hops: German Perle and American Cascade, Fuggle, and Amarillo Alcohol: 4.5% by volume Original Gravity: 11 Plato

On tap at Barfly (NYC): Tastes of banana are slightly overwhelming, followed by clove, black pepper, liquid bread, and lemon rind. Refreshes on a hot summer day, perfect when married with a chicken ceaser salad. With cheese.

Poured from bottle. Light hops and wheat in the aroma. Pale amber color. head persists. More lager-ish than wheat, IMHO. Nothing exceptional, but bad - a good summertime brew.

This was an excellent ale. Balanced hops and malts flavors were most pleasant. The color was a light copper with a generous receding head. This was purchased at the Caboose in Ashland , Va. I am goiung to try and have more of this Ale. This is a medium body ale with a hint of bitterness.

Well, it hit over 90 today, so I thought I would crack my first summer offering. This one fits the bill. It seems to be better than its parts. Very quaffable. Extra points because it is trying to be winpy yet flavorful. Decent amount of spices and citrus.

Crisp clear golden coloured body with a nice large slightly off-white head. Aroma of fresh light a.a. hops, malt, sugar and a bit of bread. Light-bodied; Strong malty flavour up front with some hops and a floral taste. Aftertaste shows some character with more malt than anything else, along with a slight bit of perfume. Overall, a nice summer beer - very refreshing and definitely worth trying! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Chevy Chase Wine & Liquors in Washington, D.C. on 03-May-2008, sampled on 31-May-2008.

Clear straight, not very bright golden pour. Initially beautiful white head quickly vanishes completely, leaving a highly effervescent liquid in the glass. Fresh malt aroma immediately evokes fresh bread. Minimal citrusy hop notions provide very little bitterness. Not necessarily very sweet, but definitely on the malty side of things. A very soft malt profile aimed fits the summer allusions very well. Medium bodied, gentle carbonation. Clean and very easy to drink, but not fun or remarkable enough to want another and another like the top English examples.

(draft @ The Old Toad - Rochester, NY) Gold color with a white head. Very clear. Aroma is light, grainy, and somewhat sweet. Some spice. Flavor is light and grainy as well with a touch of cloves and other spices and a grainy but smooth finish. Very good summer session beer. Definitely a wheat ale rather than a hefe.

Tap at Fette Sau. Listed as "Brooklyn Dinner Ale". Pale amber beer. Light minerally aroma and pale UK-ish malts. A light toastiness and a bit of fruitiness as well. Very subtle with light berries and a kiss of earthy hops on the nose. Warming brings up a light spiciness and a bit of woody resins. Hardly a mind-blowing beer, but it’s very well constructed, well-balanced and highly sessionable... just as I suspect was intended.
