Brooklyn Summer Ale is a modern rendition of the "Light Dinner Ales" brewed in England throughout the 1800's right up until the 1940's. They were also called "luncheon ales" or even "family ales", because they were refreshing and flavorful without being too heavy. We brew our Brooklyn Summer Ale from premium English barley malt, which gives this light-bodied golden beer a fresh bready flavor. German and American hops lend a light, crisp bitterness and a citrus/floral aroma resulting in a beer with a very sunny disposition. FOOD PAIRING Excellent with salads, seafood, quiches, and lightly spicy dishes. It's also great at a brunch. SPECS Style: English Style Light Dinner Ale Malts: Two Row British Malts Hops: German Perle and American Cascade, Fuggle, and Amarillo Alcohol: 4.5% by volume Original Gravity: 11 Plato

12oz bottle from Louís in Augusta. Light amber almost yellow body with a thin film of off-white head. Citrusy hops and caramel malt equally share the aroma, though itís not overpowering. Biscuit malt plays a big role, with some citrus hops in the background, along with hints of a mint-like quality. Again, not overpowering. Light in body making this very drinkable. All around enjoyable light summer beer, though having enough good flavor and aroma to satisfy. One of the best summer beers Iíve had.

Bottle: Quite the creamy head. Deep and robust aroma, crispy citric bite to it. Somewhat surprisingly hearty character. Usually brewers make "summer beers" as an excuse to make watery and flavorless yellow beers for the non beer-drinking crowd. This is the opposite ... fully flavored, richly malty, yet with a nice bready, hoppy, citrusy flourish. Nice. (#2975, 6/12/2007)

Smooth and subtle in taste. Slight citrus flavor lingers for a short time. Great beer for a bbq in the summertime.

12 oz bottle at 515 in Santa Cruz. Poured into a pilsener glass. Clear gold with a modest white froth that leaves some scattered lacing. Aromas of fresh bread, grass, and light citrus. Flavor is doughy and biscuity with a soft Cascade tartness. Just a touch of bitterness. Great balance, full-flavored while maintaining lightness. Mouthfeel is smooth and crisp with a clean finish. Ridiculously easy to drink. A great thirst-quencher, one of the best summer ales there is.

Very clear golden almost amber in color with a nice slightly soapy, off white head that dissolves into a nice thin layer. The smell was of roasted malt with accents of doughy/biscuit and dry leafy hops. Very well balanced and clean, I thought. Taste was of a bready/biscuit flavor that lingers on the palate until the next sip. Also had somewhat of a smokey flavor, in my opinion. Had a Medium/Thin and chewy/smooth mouthfeel with a dry finish. A bit heavier than I was expecting from a summer brew. I rather like this beer. I would enjoy this even into the fall season. Not a typical summer beer for sure and I enjoyed this more than the typical summer wheat beers. This would be perfect for those hot and humid summer nights, but maybe not so much during the middle of a hot day.

12oz Can, purchased at Wakefield Liquors - Wakefield, RI. Light lemon seltzer aroma. Flavors are light and airy, crisp and gentle. Iím enjoying this interpretation of Dinner Ale. Itís got that light, almost carbonic seltzer quality, but with enough clean flavor and ale quality to it to let me know Iíve got something that isnít piss lager. A bit of juicy hops finish. This is eminently drinkable and I think will find itís way into my summer can repertoire.
