Brooklyn Summer Ale is a modern rendition of the "Light Dinner Ales" brewed in England throughout the 1800's right up until the 1940's. They were also called "luncheon ales" or even "family ales", because they were refreshing and flavorful without being too heavy. We brew our Brooklyn Summer Ale from premium English barley malt, which gives this light-bodied golden beer a fresh bready flavor. German and American hops lend a light, crisp bitterness and a citrus/floral aroma resulting in a beer with a very sunny disposition. FOOD PAIRING Excellent with salads, seafood, quiches, and lightly spicy dishes. It's also great at a brunch. SPECS Style: English Style Light Dinner Ale Malts: Two Row British Malts Hops: German Perle and American Cascade, Fuggle, and Amarillo Alcohol: 4.5% by volume Original Gravity: 11 Plato

I can appreciate a lighter ale now and then, especially during warm weather. However light it may be, it still needs to have some redemptive characteristics. I was unable to find any in this ale, as the aroma and taste left a lot to be desired. Slightly better than an adjunct inclusive macro lager, if that’s what you’re after. Another lame brew from the East coast.

Copenhagen 9/7 2016. 33 cl bottle from Netto. Brooklyn Brewerys usual design in light blue, yellow and red. The ABV should be 5,0 % (and not 4,5). Pours clear yellow with white head. Settles as 1 cm thick layer of foam. Aroma is fruity with citrus, peach and fermented fruits. Light carbonation and watery palate. Flavor is pretty light and quite watery. Light sweetness followed by medium bitterness. Not much to the aftertaste. Probably fine for a lunch or to a snack - but cannot stand alone.

Bottle in Edinburgh. Hazy yellow colour, medium white head. Nose is citrussy with light sourness. Taste is fresh, citrussy and light. Shame it’s 15 °C here and not 35, as it would be much better in 35.

On tap at the Adirondack Hotel on Long Lake (Long Lake, NY). Pale blond body with a thin, lasting, white creamy head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with grassy and flowery hints. Its thin malty/hoppy taste carries herbal and some grainy notes. Ends with a short herbal finish. Efficient thirst quencher.

Bottle, 5.0%. Caramelly and slightly piney hop aroma, hint of grapefruit and ashes. Clear golden colour. Good stable white head. The flavour is a little caramelly like the aroma, but does not have much of the other notes that the aroma has. The bitterness is medium to high and a little sour. Good mouthfeel for the ABV. Refreshing and light but still with some flavour. Works well as a summer ale.
