Pint at Fourth Street Patio on 5/17/13. Darkest brown pour with a medium beige head. Aroma of grassy and piney hops with some roasted malt. Malty and roasty flavor with some dankness before a grassy hop finish.

Keg at 9A Holyrood, Edinburgh, Scotland. Clean malt and hoppy aroma. Fresh, clean taste, light hop, quite spicey on the tongue, crisp dry choco finish. Really lovely beer!

On tap at the 1st annual Asheville Rare & Wild Beer Tasting 2013, this pours black, with a nice frothy head that leaves substantive lacing. The nose is a little soapy, mingling with pine accents. Dark roasted malts combine with a floral essence for a piney finish. The body is full and the mouthfeel substantive, but the palate feels semi-light and active, one of the nicest contrasts about the brew. It’s a nice Black IPA.

Captivating roasty aroma with a nearly black pour w/ a big tan head that leaves significant lacing. The taste is a hybrid of a stout & IPA surprisingly leaning more towards the stout. It’s still well balanced & smooth but just a little confused as to what it wants to be!

Aroma is strongly and staunchly hoppy. Delicious grassiness with a hint of citrus and sweet papayas. Decent lacing on a 1/2 inch head that disappears in a few minutes.
The taste has grassy hoppiness to it, but very mild on the palate.

Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a durable tan head. Smells quite hoppy. with a dark malt base. Tastes less hoppy with dark malt in the background; basically as expected but rather simple. Pine and citrus from the hops seem to clash more than mix with the nutty and chocolate notes from the roast malt backbone. Slight burnt note in the moderately bitter finish.
Medium body with moderate carbonation.
O: With somewhat low hop flavor, this tastes more like a Black PA than Black IPA. Not a problem, especially given the hoppy aroma, but the failure of the dark malts to blend nicely with the hop load is a detriment.

I don’t know if sorachi ace hops go with black malt, this beer has some sharp citrus and spices and also a thick maltiness.

On tap at the party source in Bellvue Ky’s growler station. This beer is an opaque black liquid with a moderate head. Nose is of resin and herbal hops with a somewhat earthy undertone. Taste is moderately good bitters with some black coffee deep roasted backbone. body is fluid and satin. finishes with just a hint of warming. A nice beer overall.

ABV: 7.4%. Unclear medium to dark brown colour with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, chocolate. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet with a long duration, choclate, dark chocolate, light grapefruit - citrus. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat.
