3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 AleTsar (1327) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - MAR 30, 2013
Bottle from Tomlinsons, Inverness [310313]
Caramel reddish brown, clear, fairly thick off white head that dissipates
Aroma of caramel malts, some hedgerow hops, some spicy hop, bit of flinty mineral in there
Taste as aroma - more caramel malts, bit of toffee, soft spicy hops, some light bitter bit earthy hop, touch of minerals, tastes much more like an English bitter from the Midlands, not Scottish at all, alcohol is pretty well hidden though - it does have a pretty good taste
Palate - Medium carb, thin to medium body, bit overcarbonated (for the style) Quite sweet, with some spicy bit bitter hop. Finish of caramel, bit of toffee, and that bit earthy spicy hop
Overall - Scottish Ale? No - its a bit mineraly and that more the Midlands - very much an English ESB, Needs to be more malty, no minerals and less hoppy to be a true Scottish ale. But style is unimportant - it’s a nice beer overall

Better than my expectations. Nice dark pour with a sweet malt aroma and good deep dark head. Not any spice that i could tell just a nice almost wee heavy.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 ccex (791) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 3, 2013
12 oz bottle pours a clear dark reddish brown with small off-white head and a little lacing. Aroma is mostly sweet malts: butterscotch, burned caramel, with a bit of dark fruits. Taste is sweet with only slight bitterness in the finish. Body is medium with average carbonation. Slightly oily mouthfeel. Easily drinkable but nothing terribly memorable.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 jjgmd (730) - Coral Springs, Florida, USA - MAR 2, 2013
Pours a reddish light orange color, on tap at WOB in West Palm Beach, Nose is sweet with a butter scotch aroma. Taste is light, slight sweetness but rather flat and boring. Finish is dull. Very little flavor and disappointing. Quaff Score 6 / 10
