12 oz bottle pours deep amber with a thin off white head. Aroma of caramel, roasted malts and sweet. Taste is the caramel, toffee and a hint of spice. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355ml bottle from Good Spirit Co., Glasgow:
Sweet caramel malts to begin with some earthy ones too and a nutty smell coming through as well. There are some earthy hops and a hint of sugar as well.
Deep mahogany red colour with a half centimetre tall, slightly off-white head with a bubbly texture on top.
Definite sweet malts to begin with some base caramel and a nutty flavour. There is an earthy flavour to it as well, perhaps the hops from the nose along with some darker fruits and a slightly boozy feel to it.
Medium in both carbonation and in body with a boozy feel as mentioned above. It is pretty smooth, quite rich and almost creamy.

Nice an malty from this one, a good winter beer with a slightly boozy feel to it and great drinkability. It goes down particularly well, is pretty well balanced and there is a good closeness between the aroma and the taste.

The nose is a little messy... caramel, malts, roasted malts, coffee, BBQ sauce, soy sauce, molasses, and even some smoked wood. But I’m intrigued. Unfortunately, the taste delivers little more than a very average ale with malty bitterness and a bit of sugary sweetness. Mouthfeel is weak, with a thin-to-medium body and shy carbonation. This could have been better.

Appearance: Pours a caramel orange cloud.
Aroma: Aroma of light caramel.
Taste: Faint bitterness, caramel, sweet.
Palate:Medium body, faint creaminess.

Summary: Thanks Dave for the beer! A decent Scottish ale for staying warm in the winter.

Decent winter. Roasty and malty, slighty sweet, with a lingering finish. Full bodied flavor without being too heavy. Not a style I typically get in to, but I think a decent representation.

Reddish brown with a light white head. The aroma is subtle like the air in a wheat field. The flavor is full bodies and reminds of a peaty scotch more than a winter ale. Overall it is very smooth and well balanced. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Hazy amber beer, tidy white head. Softish dry palate. Watery malt with traces of cream and sweet coca cola. Lots of minerals and a dry finish. Lacks depth and is a bit too watery.

IslandHaole (1083) - Yokosuka-Shi, Kanagawa-Ken, JAPAN - JAN 6, 2013
A clear, light copper color with plenty of carbonation and a foamy beige head. Sweet malt with caramel and a hint of cardboard in the nose. Sweet flavor, a bit of candy from my childhood, can’t recall the name of them but sure does take me back many, many years. IMO, a bit too carbonated and thin for a winter beer. Nothing spectacular at all, not one of Brooklyn’s more impressive offerings

This is one of the better Winter Ale’s I have had. It has a nice presence of spices, and a full body to keep you warm on those cold nights. Dark amber in appearance, retains some head when poured into a Sam Adams pint glass.

The color of iced tea with about a finger of lingering head. The aroma is a mild malt, and so is the flavor, with maybe an implication of spice. This isn’t substantially different from, or better than, any other brown ale. A waste of time and money.
