sstackho (198), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 21, 2008 12oz bottle purchased from Clarendon Wines in Boston. Pours a medium-dark copper with a bit of head. Decent malty aroma. Initial taste is of malts, but then leads to a slightly tangy bitterness to round things out. I was worried that this was going to be another all-malt-and-only-malt "winter beer" experience, and was happy that this offered a bit more.
tomthompson89 (1049), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 18, 2008 reddish brown color, decent foam. Nose is very malty some toffee, some hops not strong though as should be for the style, some smoke. good thick mouthfeel. Nice beer. Sammy (2962), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 17, 2008 2007 edition thanks to crushinator. Te aroma is consistent with the Scottish style, malty and peaty. It drinks very smooth, even creamy above average mouthfeel. There is lots of lace. It is very drinkable for the style, which is a swallow ata time. estoppel (964), Buffalo, New York, USA Jun 27, 2008 Bottle. Dark reddish brown body, small off-white head, sweet nose. Moderately sweet, plum notes, light sourness, slightly oxidized, no hop presence to speak of, not terribly impressive. graham515 (275), Austin, Texas, USA Jun 20, 2008 Pours a nice ruby brown into the glass with a small white head. Aroma is sweet and malty. The flavor profile is similar with a big taste and a nice spiciness. I’d be enjoying this beer even more if it wasn’t hot as hell. glennmastrange (368), hobe sound, Florida, USA Jun 16, 2008 Bottle. Moderate smells of dark bread and nutty for the malt, light herbs for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast and date and cinnamon in the background. Head starts at average size, creamy, off white, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear red brown. Flavor startslightly sweet and moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and bitter, and a touch sour. Palate is medium, watery with a bit of clinginess. Aromas were nice but the taste was a little flat.
