A decent interpretation of a Scottish Ale, but could be a little more complex.

Nutty, plum, dark caramel, mild roasted malt, touch of licorice, astringent finish. Flavors are a bit mild despite a promising nose, not as rich as expected for this style.

ContemplateBeer (1621) - Louisville, Kentucky, USA - FEB 26, 2015
Aroma: Toffee, pecan praline, fruity esters reminiscent of fig newtons. Appearance: Rusty brown translucent pour with a foamy tan head that settles into a ring. Flavor: Thoroughly malty and somewhat sweet with lightly spiced bread and caramel; fruity esters are more dull than the nose suggests, leading to a semi-sweet finish. Palate: Full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: Some good things going on here; I only wish the flavor was as dynamic as the nose suggested.

AdiBeer (1681) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 22, 2015
Aroma: caramel, molasses, bread malts, winter spices, cloves. Appearance: hazy brown, small creamy, beige head. Taste: Light sweet. Palate: sweets continue, then turn slightly bitter, fizzy carbonation, medium body. Overall: nice seasonal ale, could be more intense for that ABV. Pint at The White Horse, Parson’s Green.

12 oz. bottle consumed at home. Pours a clear reddish copper color with a small beige head. The aroma had caramel malts, brown sugar, generally sweet, mild spices, earthy hops, and some fruit character. The flavor has more muted caramel malts, fruit, some cherry, mild spices, brown sugar, and hops. Light to medium bodied. Nothing very exciting here, but I had to rate this after having it a couple times.

Pours a clear brown beer with a medium, very fine and beige head. Smells malty (biscuit), yeasty, spicy (licorice) also has a small hint of chocolate. Tastes slightly bitter. Leaves a light palate. Some malt bitterness lingers but that is about it. mouthfeel is medium. And the alcohol tastes light. Ok beer but nothing exceptional.

Tap at Pizza Luce. Light orange brown with a thin white head. Grapenuts, floral hop, woody and malty cereal. Tastes floral and malty. Body is lighter with strong carbonated feel.

BeerViking (2824) - Brentford, Greater London, ENGLAND - FEB 1, 2015
Bottle from Wholefoods Richmond, deep amber-brown with a fast-settling head and a typical roast caramel nose with hints of orange and honey. Sweetish toasty body with touches of dark fruit and faintly of marmalade, the burnt and lightly bitter flavours taking the edge off the toffeeish sweetness.

Stine (1642) - Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA - JAN 30, 2015
Burnt orange color; clear. Malt aroma comprised of dates, oily nuts, burnt honey, rich wheat bread. Basic, clean. Deep notes of old wood and mild vinegar. Plain, but satiating malt flavor. Amber honey, distant cinnamon, various aerated spices. Crisp palate; lots of crystal malt is somewhat quieter than it would seem.
