Commercial Description:
In German, Munich is "Munchen", or "place of the monks." While Belgium is now better known for monastic brewing, many of Germany's great breweries have monastic origins. During the forty days of Lent leading up to Easter, the monks fasted, allowing themselves no solid food. They developed doppelbock, a beer style solid enough to get them through their fasting period. Names for German doppelbocks always use the suffix "-ator", so we've followed suit. Brooklynator Doppelbock is brewed in the classic style, often referred to as "liquid bread." It's brewed from 100% German malts and hops and fermented cold with a Bavarian lager yeast. It has a bready, toffee-like aroma, crisp, moderate bitterness, a silky slightly sweet center and a long bready finish. The monks fasted, but you don't have to. Brooklynator Doppelbock is great with pork dishes, venison, duck, sausages, earthy beans, mushrooms, and full-flavored cheeses.

On tap Capital Ale House. Clear very dark brown with a small off white head. Almost sour notes on top of a bit of roast malt aroma with no hop aroma. Fairly light and fizzy mouthfeel for a doppelbock. Caramel, roast malt, a bit of rum raisin, and some wood in the flavors. Just enough hops to ballance out and finish is almost sherry like. Not as malt acentuated as expected. Very interesting, tasty, and drinkable beer.

Dark brown color with a red sheen coming through. A creamy white head sits on top and quickly fades. Aromas of berries, chocolate, smoke, and butter. Flavor has a touch of banana, chocolate, fruitiness. Very sweet. The full body lightens as it warms.

Draft @ RFD. Cola brown, mostly clear but dark. Peppery sharp flavor up front, spicy and sweet and with a light alcohol tingle as well, but then it quickly settles out into more of a sweet cola, chocolate, light toast, light smoke character, with some plum and black cherries and some dry oak as well. Texture is sharp and biting up front, smoother and oily on the back. There’s something strange in this beer that I can’t quite place, I don’t hate it and I don’t love it, I’m just not sure what it is. It seems almost like one of those 10-11% imperial stouts where you never really feel or tastes the alcohol but there’s a thin butane like character than your palate picks up to signal the high octane.

On tap at Oldsmar Tap House. Pours a dark reddish color, with hazy brown highlights. Peach colored fluffy head with plenty of lacing. Sweet fruit esters, peach and caramel, and dark candy in the nose. Flavor is pretty good, and sweet. Brown sugar and candy, malty as hell, and some clove. Very tasty. Not a lot of doppelbocks go down easily, but this one does. Has an eisbock feel, very smooth.
