fishingnet (1045), Brandon, Florida, USA Apr 16, 2008 Tap. Pours a clear deep amber brown with a small light tan head that fades to a ring leaving good lacing. Aroma of bready malt, toffee, and a hint of wild yeast infection. Taste is bready malt, toffee, and a hint of roasted malt. Medium thin mouthfeel with a mild to moderate amount of bitterness and a slightly tart finish. Good. JoeMcPhee (4893), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Apr 13, 2008 Growler from Whole Foods Bowery. Deep brown amber beer, creamy tan head. Aroma is rich and sweet. Very clean and malty with lots of sweet toasted caramel character over dates and figs. Lightly earthy throughout but with lots of malty sweetness. Balanced though, with a good richness, but still well-attenuated and very clean. A touch of smokiness and brown sugar throughout. Some rye bread character as well. I think this is underrated... really tasty, IMO. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Apr 13, 2008 Draft at Tap House on Queensway. Dark copper pour. Nose is dark malts, caramel, and soft fruit. Taste is more caramel, chewy malts, soft fruit flavors and dusty cocoa. Some chocolate comes through at times. Body is medium and slightly chewy. Soft carbonation. Ends sweet with creamy malts, cocoa, caramel, and soft fruit. A dessert-like doppelbock. goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Apr 12, 2008 Poured a reddish-brown color with a beige head. The aroma and flavor were fairly fruity and moderately sweet. Figs, Plums, and caramel dominate. Medium bodied with a smooth feel. Very drinkable. kevin62 (267), New Jersey, USA Apr 12, 2008 Had on draft, this beer poured a reddish brown with a nice tan head.Aromas of malt and caramel. The flavor is slightly sweet with some caramel and brown sugar, with the body lighter than expected, but a real good one anyway. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Apr 12, 2008 Tap at Blind Tiger: Brown pour with a ruby hue and a small, but dense tan head. Nose has some dark Belgian malt, and a light sweet fruitiness of raisins and dates. The body has a decent, creamy texture. Flavor has an odd metallic zing with a sweet fruity note of raisins and dates. Light roast comes through from some dark Belgian malts. Decent, but one-dimensional. beerbill (1918), Laurel, New York, USA Apr 12, 2008 Growler filled at Bellport Beer and Soda. Pours a clear red with a very thin soapy head that disappeared after the first sip. Pleasant aroma of malt with some bready notes detected as well. The flavor is a bit on the sweet side with malt being the main component and some brown sugar, bread and even some very light smoke present. No bitterness to speak of at the finish, but there is an alcohol flavor that emerges near the end. I was surprised the abv was only 7.5% because it feels like more in this beer. The body is a bit on the thin side. Still, a decent doppelbock. egajdzis (3598), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 10, 2008 Updated: Apr 13, 2008Poured a brown red color with a small, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malts, light nuts, some roast, bread, and also a bit of smoke. Taste of sweeter caramel malts, with smoke, roast, light raisins, and also a bit of alcohol in the finish.
