Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada May 10, 2009 A golden weizen with a super thick lacing white head. A pleasant aroma of resinous hops with herbal catnip notes, fragrant and enticing. In mouth, a hoppy and silky hybrid with intense pinhey hops, menthol, warming alcohol. Rich, smooth and silky. Classy. Thanks Karl, Shared with Probstk, April 2 2009. JPDIPSO (4863), Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, USA May 9, 2009 Bottle. Cloudy light golden color with a moderate ecru colored head. Aged hops and mild barnyard scents. Mild banana, light fruit and cloves also in the aroma. Not an inviting nose for me. Lots of sweet wheat in the flavors. Grapefruit and cloves in the middle. Melon and key lime in the finish. Bi-polar brew for me. There are times I like it and then something comes in and I’m less than enamored. j12601 (1149), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA May 8, 2009 Corked 750 bottle that I had as a side by side with the Schneider-Brooklyner version. Pours a lovely hazy apricot amber with a large beige head with some staying power. Nice citrus hops, cinnamon, yeast, and as it warms, a bit of caramel. Medium body, grassy, a touch sweet. Finishes with a nice gentle touch of grapefruit bitter. I’m impressed. I’m usually not a big fan of Brooklyn’s stuff, but this is rather tasty, and the way the collaboration worked, producing two beers instead of one is rather nice as well. I found this one to be just a hair better than the Schneider version, but both are quite good. probstk (1005), Nepean, Ontario, Canada May 7, 2009 750 ml bottle from BOTW, shared with Lubiere, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass. LOT 0668. AP02/09.
App.: Cloudy orange-golden with a loose, off-white froth.
Aroma: Huge amount of pine/resin/weed hops, orange/coriander, yeast, light tang and funk, some esters creep in, kinda Saison-ish, becomes more bitter orange and grapefruit.
Palate: Medium+ body, soft effervescence, smooth and slightly syrupy.
Flav.: lots of grapefruit/C-hops, some banana and other esters, wheat and toasty malts, yeast, spicy, light Saison funk, some light toffee and nuttiness; off-dry with nice bitterness and a bit of warming alcohol, a little too much alcohol maybe.
What a fantastic experiment! I need more! andersand (271), Malmö, Sweden May 3, 2009 Flavourwise a really nice beer with a great blend of tropical hoppy components alongside the typical wheatbeer banana stuff. The mouthfeel really kills it for me though, harsh and overcarbonated. BlackForestCO (819), Fort Collins, Colorado, USA May 2, 2009 Bottle from j12601, thanks man! Poured a hazy yellow-orange color with a thick, rocky white head that left thick sheets of lacing. Wheaty, fruity aroma (orange, banana) with some light spiciness (clove, light pepper), faint bubble gum, and some light yeast. Smooth, lightly sweet entry with some bright fruitiness (orange, soft banana) and some creamy wheat transitions into a dry hoppiness paired with some soft spiciness on the finish (mostly clove). Moderate carbonation and nice mouth feel. This was a really nice, easy drinking beer. This is something I wish was available locally. Thanks again Jay. joergen (8429), Frederiksberg, Denmark May 2, 2009 Draught at Bishops Arms, Malmô.
