Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

750ml bottle. Pours a nice orange with a creamy well sustained off white head. Smells of citrus, bananas, perfume, some hints of residual sugar, dry malt. Taste combines a nive healthy bitterness with some caramel, perfume, citrus, spice. Finish is dry with some hints of pepper. Great beer!

Bottle. Was really looking forward to this one - two of my favorite breweries and one of my favorites styles. Things started off well with a great head and not too dark body that let you see all the beautfiul swirling underneath. Aroma was pretty good, fruity and sugary, but not too strong. Flavor is a bit drier than I’d like, with a harshness in the back from the alcohol, oh well. I guess I should try this one on tap.

Initial tropical fruit and citrus hop notes are very strong but once that blows off, the yeasty phenolics of clove and banana are nicely apparent in the aroma. Clear and very bubbly deep orange-blonde body is topped by a generous and constantly replenishing, fine bubbled white head that sticks to the sides of the glass. Hop flavours of tropical fruit are strong and blend in with the banana and spice notes but there is also a very pleasant underlying pastry-dough-like sweetness. Bitterness is quite pronounced but not at all over the top. Medium-light body has very strong bubbly effervescence that lasts throughout. Very refreshing on an uncharacteristically hot and humid Vancouver afternoon. I could see this really hitting the spot in the muggy summer months in the North-East. Weizen glass. Fridge temperature. Bottle (Brewery Creek, Jun-07).

750 ml bottle. Pours a nice cloudy (had to swirl the bottle kinda hard) yellowish straw with a nice thick white head- creamy bubbles mixed with soapy larger bubbles and a soapy diminishing lace. Aroma is moderately lemony soapy some anise, spicy phenolics- vanilla, and light clove, some doughy wehat notes. Big wheaty malt flavor with some light tropical fruitiness and pineapple, clove spices, earthy floral hops, vanilla, and some lemony orangey zest in the end. Smooth, medium to big mouthfeel, but becomes a bit soapy and slick as it warms but overall this is just a good unique beer. I like this one quite a bit more than the German version.

Bomber. Hazy orange color, huge white head. Beautiful aroma of sour hops, citrus, and yeast. The flavor’s not so well balanced, though very complex. Banana, cloves, citrus hops, grapes. It finishes with some red wine and a bit of burn. Interesting beer, but in my opinion, not worth the price.

(750 ml bottle from Tully’s) A little richer and tastier than the Schneider version...Cork comes out with a strong pop. Pours cloudy gold-amber with a huge frothy, foamy, lumpy off-white head. Foam oozes out of the bottle for several minutes. Later pours are even cloudier, a bit darker and have a bit of a grayish tint. Aroma of sourish citrus, chocolate, banana, yeast, bread, even a bit of light caramel. Mouthfeel soft and wheaty smooth and with a nice bit of heft, perhaps a bit more than the Schneider. Tastes fairly rich and boozy - light sour citrus, wheat malt, chocolate, light banana, perhaps a touch of brown sugar. A bitter bite builds towards finish - a bit more prominent than the Schneider. Some caramel in warmer samples and deeper into bottle. A very good weizen bock but perhaps just a bit less refined than some of the truly great ones.
