Commercial Description:
This Beer is served on DRAFT and in 750ml BROOKLYN bottles.
In May 2007, Garrett Oliver traveled to the 400 yr-old Schneider brewery in Kelheim, Germany, to brew Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This was dry-hopped with the local Hallertauer Saphir hop variety. In July, Drexler brought his yeast to Brooklyn and brewed Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse, choosing the American Amarillo and Palisade varieties for the dry-hopping. Now you can taste the result, the latest beer in our Brewmaster’s Reserve series. The beer has a full orange color and the aromatics pair the banana and clove notes from the Schneider yeast with the mango and citrus qualities of the hops. The bitterness is robust but balanced, and the beer has a clean, hoppy finish.
Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse pairs well with Caribbean seafood preparations, crab cakes, jerk chicken, Thai cuisine, Szechuan cooking and many Mexican dishes.”

Draught: Medium sweet aroma. Smells floral with notes of hops, spices, coriander, and citrus. Poured a trubid dark straw/golden color with a large white head that diminished in size but lasted throughout. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor of hops, pine, cloves, spice, and banana. Medium to full body. Average texture. Average to lively carbonation. Sweet hop and clove finish. Overall, a really nice flavor and body create quite a good beer.

Yay! Totally hazed, opaque, ochre with 1/2 inch almost pink head. Lovely bouquet filled with orange blossoms, pink grapefruit, citrus zest. Big bursting mouthfeel of foam and prickle. Apple, custard, and custard apple flavors. The balance of sweet, thick wheat malts and bright citrusy hops is extraordinary. I love this beer, and would love to have this side by side with the Schneider version to compare.

I hope I’m rating the correct one - I sampled this at the 2007 Brewgrass festival and the tap handle cleary said "Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse" Anyway, Really nice aroma, very spicy and clovey and banana-y and even a touch of rosemary? Maybe? Plenty flavorful, too - very yeasty, and also spicy and fruity, and a nice dry finish. For a large beer, it’s surprisingly light on the tounge, kind of like a 300 pound guy who is a surprisingly good dancer.

750ml bottle from Porterhouse; Thanks a bunch Kevin; wish I asked you for two! Nose of flowery hops, yeasty wheat, cinnamon, and cloves; Hazy copper orange with a big, glass-lacing, pale yellow head; Flavor was light hop bitterness, spices, cloves, bananas, caramel, and yeastiness. Finish was lightly bitter hops and spices!! New #1!!!

Growler - hazy light gold beer, with a soapy, large-bubbled head - the aroma explodes with american hops, but once your nose adjusts, there are complex notes of clove, lemon, and strong herbal notes (mostly thyme and rosemary) - the flavor progresses in much the same way - strong, pine and citrus american hop flavors up front, coupling well with your standard wheat beer flavors - then, more complex notes of thyme, lime leaves, peppery qualities - light sweetness near the finish, with some pineapple and orange - herbal notes and hop bitterness linger in the finish - the alcohol becomes a bit too apparent at the end, but the warming character it brings fits the herbal qualities of the beer - a very unique and tasty brew, with a bit more "character" than it’s companion.

Bottled. Weizenbock? Really? Ok, whatever. Pours with a monster head and beautifully opaque body. Very muggy, sweaty aroma, like a gym locker room, mixed with some sugary notes along with a bitter Belgian hop. Thick, dank flavor, like morning dew dripping off a hop leaf, or maybe like licking a hop leaf after some sweaty jock rubbed up against it. You get the idea.

[1748-20081002] 1pt9.4floz bottle. Aroma of yeasty sour bread and green leafy nubbins. Murky, light brown orange body with a long-lasting creamy off-white head. Toasted yeasty grain bread and sweet floral flavour. Medium body is a little tart. Really good, drinkable, interesting!

Appearance: Pours a hazy, orange-golden body with a tall, vigorous, sudsy, white head. Smell: Notably spicy upfront with a strong, redolent scent of allspice, along with notes of clove and nutmeg. Plus, a spicy, tropical hop character. Sweetish wheat component. Tons of fruitiness coming and going. Taste: Malted wheat and barley blended with sweetened banana juice and chewing gum. Fair amount of spice and a generous addition of tropical fruit. Dash of peach schnapps. Growing wheat tanginess upon warming. Slight grassiness. A cereal sweetness that comes and goes, as does a tickle of acidity. Citrusy, spicy hop character with a medium bitterness. A finish that’s all at once tangy, sweet, bitter, fruity... touch of pine resin on the very tail end of it. though I’m finding everything well balanced, just the right amount of sweet, malt, fruit, bitterness, spice flavor. The more you sit with it, the more the flavors evolve and rearrange themselves. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Slight stickiness to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: Brooklyner-Schneider Hopfen-Weisse is hoppy, packed to the brim with flavors and complexities, enjoyably aromatic, but it remains singularly drinkable. Plus, what a classy-looking bottle! In all honesty, I enjoyed this WAAAY more than I thought I would.
