jhumphries69 (656), Tyrone, Georgia, USA Jun 21, 2008 750ml caged&corked bottle. Pours a deep, cloudy, glowing orange gold with a very thick, though short-lived, white head that never dissipates completely and leaves a few strings and spots of lace on the glass. The aroma is a big whiff of fresh hop leaves - citrus and freshly-mown grass. After your nose gets through the hops, there are spicy phenolic aromas (allspice), subtle fruit (plums, peaches), and a subtle sweet malt aroma. The flavor starts in a very complex fashion: alcohol, grassy hops, chewy malted wheat, and spices. Fruitiness and funkiness grow as the beer ventures towards mid-tongue. Hop bitterness also grows. The finish is somewhat dry, bitter from both hops and ethanol, and very complex with fruity esters and spicy phenols. The mouthfeel is luxurious - creamy, sudsy and soft, full-bodied, and densely carbonated. Overall, an absolutely awesome beer. I don’t think weizenbock, however, is a remotely suitable appellation. More like an American Strong Ale (tastes more like a Belgian Strong Ale thanks to the funk from the Schneider yeast). Regardless of style, this beer is awesome - a total home run (and it comes only one day after the last home run I tasted: Allagash Hugh Mallone...)
gnoff (3381), Göteborg, Sweden Jun 30, 2009 Draught at Haket In June, 2009 Hazy orange color, white head. Nice, fruity, apricots scent. Fruity tasty, malty taste. ok on to side by side with its Brother ... more orangy amber ... nose is brighter and more hoppy yeast and pine hop is much more noticible ... sharper edge bit more bitter ... but seems a bit shalower... lots of pine present...although it doesnt seem to have the depth of its brother it just seems to have a bit more kick... 3.8 leems (57), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 19, 2009 On tap @ Moon & Sixpence (Portland, OR) - A very cloudy light orange with a thin white head. Bright lemon and yeast nose. The flavor is initially green apple, and citrus hop followed by a yeasty sweetness. Unusual beer but very refreshing, I would definitely drink this again especially on a nice hot day. PaulHegedus (364), Georgetown, Ontario, Canada Jun 7, 2009 Bottle. Very nice to share this with my friend Matthew for his birthday! This beer is really beautiful. A hazy golden orange colour, the bottle fills two weizen glasses wonderfully with a huge, thick fluffy white head like yeasty bread dough on each. The aroma is fantastically complex and interesting. There’s some very fresh citrus, especially orange, banana, clove, plenty of yeastiness and a whole lot of fresh leafy hop aroma, juicy and equally citrusy. The mouthfeel is thick, unfiltered and medium to full, very drinkable with good carbonation for a warm day out in the backyard. The flavour is wonderful; there’s plenty of fresh grassy hops, grapefruit, orange, lemon, banana, clove, mango. The alcohol is very well masked. The banana really stays on the tongue after taking a sip. I would imagine that bottle refermentation helps keep it tasting as fresh as it does. Food pairing options for this could be interesting to experiment with. hoppopotamus (156), New York, New York, USA Jun 7, 2009 A nice hazy golden beer with a large fluffy white head. Good sweet citrusy hop nose with yeasty wheat breadiness. Amazing hop flavor, like juicy fruit. Doesn’t have the bitterness that most hoppy beers bear, but this works real well with the light wheat malt. Perhaps the perfect summer beer, very refreshing! No trace of the 8.5%. Very unusual beer, but I think it really works! BigDUK (9), West Yorkshire, England does not count Jun 2, 2009 On tap @ North BAr (Leeds, UK).
