Commercial Description:
Brooklyner Weisse is a Bavarian-style wheat beer, unfiltered and chock full of spicy esters that evoke hints of cloves and fruit, some say even bananas. The beer is made with a traditional weizen yeast strain. The malt mix is half malted wheat and half barley malt. The hops are Perle, from Germany. Bitterness is low to medium.

Pours light, hazy amber with a small white head. The aroma is light, some clove and bubblegum. The flavor is bready with lots of bubblegum, a touch of banana. Medium/light body.

Best before Oct 2006 bottle consumed on 6/27/06. Unfiltered golden-straw with very faint copper tints. Head is white to off-white and well-retained, yet little lacing is left behind. Not overly aggressive in the nose, as the yeast blurs the line between American wheat and German wheat. Some light clove, dry wheat nuttiness and barely any hint of banana or bubble gum. But there is a light, fluffy vanilla-wafer like maltiness that rides on the heels of the grassy, dry hops. Medium strength in the aroma overall, but stronger esters or juicier malt would help deliver more interest in the nose. The flavor is extremely dry and attenuated, with only light honey catching up, finally, on the finish. Some aerated notes of bubble gum bounce off the sides of the palate and are gone, while more nutty wheat serves to keep everything toned down and smooth. The carbonation is lively, but the bubbles natural, creating a refreshing mouthfeel on top of a very light body. Grassy, straw-like hops that seem a little soggy and counterproductive to providing plenty of flavor or crispness linger on. No alcohol or flaws. Some spicy yeast notes and bits of breadiness emerge as the beer warms, with a hint of orange rind astringency on end.

12 oz bottle. Clear light orange color with bubbly white head. Pleasant yeasty bread dough aroma with cloves and a touch of banana. Flavor follows aroma with a light citrus note. Pretty good.

This is the only hefeweizen from an American brewery that I’ve actually liked. Initially it tasted very strong, overwhelming fruitiness, a slight unpleasant sourness. You can taste the wheat. As I drank it the sourness actually diminished--this is one of the least unpleasant hefeweizen’s I’ve ever had. I actually thought it was pretty good. This is not an outstanding beer but I have to give them credit, I’ve tasted some absolutely terrible hefeweizens to come out of american microbreweries, and this one is not only drinkable but also enjoyable, even if it’s not my favourite beer.

Pours dark, clear gold into a tumbler. Head quickly recedes to hug rim. Clove and banana notes. A little thin with upfront fizzy spice and a medium lasting banana finish.

Pours yellow with a white head. Smells of citrus, banana and spices. It tastes very good with a lot of the same flavors. It was light and refreshing, exactly what I need on a hot rainy night.

Wow, an American hefeweizen that actually possesses hefeweizen qualities. Pours yellow and cloudy with a white head. Smells of bananas, coriander and lemons with some grassy undertones. Tastes lemony with some underlying peppery and herbal notes.

A great American German wheat beer, this one poured a golden color and had a nice lacing that trailed the entire glass downward. Aromatic flavor of citrus and flowery overtones, but amazingly fresh and crisp. Nice Bavarian available on draft right here in the States.
