3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 drowland (3891) - Tallahassee, Florida, USA - JUL 17, 2010
7/14/10. On tap in a weizen glass. Aroma is huge spicy phenols with bubblegum and a hint of banana. The flavor is the same but a bit milder and with sour citrus very present and some cream. Not bad.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 theisti (2441) - Leawood, Kansas, USA - JUN 9, 2010
I had this as the "Beer Bistro Weiss" at The Beer Bistro in Chicago, Illinois. I asked the served if it was this beer, and she confirmed. .5 L hefe glass pour. Pour is a cloudy yellow golden, with a smallish white head. Aroma is big spicy clove and bubble gum yeastiness, followed by some of the wheat grain. Taste is bubblegum, clove, grainy wheat and a sweet apple finish. Palate is mediun to full bodied, with a silky carbonation that makes it go down quick. Nice enough, though a touch too sweet for my taste.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 daknole (5854) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - MAY 11, 2010
Cloudy yellowish pour. Whitish head. Aroma is yeasty and has some lemon notes. Nothing special. Flavor is yeasty, lightly lemony, some wheat. A bit of light stone fruit maybe. Just ok.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 jtclockwork (3837) - , New Jersey, USA - MAY 7, 2010
Very drinkable wheat. Slightly spiced. Nose is light peel, lemon and hay. Rated 5/14/04

Golden yellow pour with a thick white head. Good lacing but way too clear for a hefe. Standard hefe aromas (bananas, cloves, yeast) but somewhat... diluted. Simply not as appealing as I typically find the style. Body was light and a little flat.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 SSKD814 (854) - Pennsylvania, USA - APR 22, 2010
A- Body is a slightly hazy yellow. Pour produces <1 finger foamy white head that quickly fades to a thin collar which retains well. No lacing is left behind in the glass. A hefeweizen should be much cloudier than this.
S- Nose is in-line for the style. Banana, clove, and a sweet yeastiness can be detected.
T- Faint banana upfront with a mild sweet, yeasty background. A touch of hops and clove kick in for the finish.
P- Carbonation is low to medium and body is thin and somewhat watery though some yeast can be detected.
O- This is an ok beer. Not sure if it was the bottle/batch or if this beer is always this way. I won’t be paying for this one again.

Brooklyn Brewery lives a double life: both loved and loathed by beer geeks and beer novices alike, a duality that never ceases to perplex me. Personally, a beer geek at heart, I am also a casual supper. It all boils down to the beer for me and my love for it. Beer is life and life is beer. I enjoy all of Brooklyn Brewery’s beers. Some more-so than others, of course, but I have never had a bad beer from them. Garret exudes an amazing balance between explosive creativity and exquisite balance that embodies a forgotten classicism. I find this an amazing delight to study and to taste. Brand new to Florida and only available on draft at the moment is their Brooklyner-Weisse. Not part of the keg-only Brewmaster’s Reserve series, but a delightful German-inspired Hefeweizen from Brooklyn Brewery.
Drawn from tap at my favorite local beer bar, Vine & Barley, my Brooklyner-Weisse was a beauty to both gaze upon and sup. Cloudy oranges with gentle lemon-cream and bubblegum hues resting under a soft meringue-inspired head. Over time, her head fades into an equally puffy collar that opens a pathway for her bounteous nose to ensnare mine. Classic bubblegum flavors abound without the waxy wrapping finish. Cloves run raucous while banana pudding overflows its moist pie crust only to be met by a flurry of fresh cinnamon before rounding the corner and starting all over again. Complex? Yes and no. Her richness of flavors was both limitless and limited all at the same time; just the right combination of choice aromatic delights. I’m a sucker for a well-crafted German-style Hefeweizen so I waste no time diving through the nose to land lips first into her welcoming depths. Smooth velvet, bubblegum is front of the line right before cotton candy swirls and sticks just like the massive showing of lace her receding depths leave alongside my glass. Spice peppers my breath along with clove and further notes of bubblegum. Creamy and chewy, just the way I like it. Overripe bananas complete the perfect banana cream pie topped by freshly whipped meringue, slightly toasted please. Tart bits of apricot nip playfully at her heels while lemon zips and zags atop my tongue. As I reach the end of our playful tryst, the banana cream melts into a subdued essence while cloves burst in the middle whereas before they had parleyed throughout her palate. One final breath of spice, bubblegum, banana cream, and clove and my glass is woefully empty.
Supposedly a bottled Brooklyner-Weisse will be available at some point in Florida, and I look forward to seeing how the bottle version compares against the kegged version. I’m sure I will enjoy both, but I see my preference leaning towards the kegged Brooklyner-Weisse. Only time and a real-life tasting will tell.

Not sure what’s going on with this beer. Half the descriptions say hazy yellow, but mine was a clear, copper. Tasted more like a weizenbock than a hefeweizen. Lots of chewy toffee malts and weird sour candy. Some citrus and biscuit flavors.
