COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With a nod to its origins, traditional East Kent Goldings are used as the backbone of this beer’s noticeable bitterness. Amarillo hops add a floral note to the flavor and Cascades give a bold aroma. Imported English malt keeps everything from crumbling under the significant hop profile, while rich Crystal malt provides color. Prodigal Son is a return to where IPA started after sailing half-way around the world and, more recently, experiencing new adventures on American shores.

On draft at Duke’s in Spring Hill. Pours translucent orange amber with a frothy off-white head. Nose is malt, some biscuit quality, mild grapefruit hops, and some caramel. Flavor is similar with mild biscuity malt, mild hops, and a mildly bitter finish. Very English in style, and a nice British-style IPA.

A dark amber orange ale with a thin lacing light moka head. In aroma, a buttery malt with light bilous notes, a bit rotten, and faint hops. In mouth, a grainy biscuitty malt with some British hops, grapefruits, same cloying butterscotch, medium bodied. On tap at brewpub, Jan. 4 2011.

Au fût @ brewpub. Cuivre avec légère mousse blanche. Where are the hops? Conclusion, assez décevante.

Pours deep copper with long lasting tan head and some crusty spotty lacing. The aroma is interesting with a combination of spicy hops, floral hops, thick earthy hops that lean toward fresh cow patty, sweet thick malts and more mild wet clumpy earthiness. The taste has a smooth pulse of spicy to floral hops then running into earthiness that borders on a sense of oxidation and then it gets more and more bitter with hops to midway and then the finish. Would be cool to try this again when it is super fresh. The interesting notes may just be due to the time it spent in the bright tank (the aroma and taste make it seem like it did).
