COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brian O’Reilly, award-winning brewmaster of Sly Fox Brewery, paired up with the loved-and-local brewers Tom Kehoe of Yards’ Brewing Co., Bill Covaleski of Victory Brewing Co., Brett Kintzer of Stoudt’s Brewery and John Trogner of Troegs Brewery on Fri. morning, May 7 at SF’s Royersford location to jumpstart the production of the Philly Beer Week’s Collaboration Ale—a beer styled as an extra special bitter, an ESB. The brewing collaborative team, tentatively titled Brotherly Suds, took a bit of leg work, dividing two parts of the team to provide the malts, two to provide the hops and one stylized brewing setup, as seen at Sly Fox. The concept of Brotherly Suds is hoped to continue per each Philly Beer Week, too, replacing a new brewery with one that was represented the previous year.

Draught at TND: Aroma of malt, toffee, caramel, and slight hops. Poured copper/amber in color with a medium-sized, creamy, dense, tan head that diminished but lasted throughout. Clear. Sparkling. Ok lacing. Flavor is lightly sweet and light to medium bitter. Tastes of malt, nuts, hops, slight pine, slight citrus, and slight toffee. Medium body. Thin, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, nut, light hop, and slight pine finish is dry, slightly sweet, and lightly bitter.

Tap and firkin at Opening Tap PBW10. Pours a mostly translucent deeper brownish amber with a medium off white head. Aroma of nuts, toasted malt and light spicy and floral hops. Flavor the same with some bready malt character.

Very smooth and light as its in your mouth with caramel and hoppy notes. The bitterness of this ESB doesn’t hit until its down your throat and that’s really how this style should be. Reminds me a lot of Victory’s ESB in color and taste which I guess makes sense since they were a collaborator.

[Beers on Broad] Brown amber color with a small, off white head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of floral hops, citrus fruits, nuts, toast, toffee, and caramel malts. Taste of caramel malts, some toast, citrus, light pine, and harsh, bitter hoppy notes in the finish.
