   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 4/5   OVERALL 15/20
MartinT (6350) - Montreal, - SEP 5, 2005
UPDATED: JUL 7, 2009 The Lure:
A boisterous flower bouquet proffers earth and petals, the whole deal. Oranges and the tree on which they grew. A pure and straightforward I2PA, though nothing out of the ordinary when you already know the style.

The Festivities:
Wooden hop bitterness lets its presence known, but remains palatable. Oranges and citrus fruit aplenty bounce on the slender honeyed malt trampoline. A delicious hop sipper, never exaggerating its best attributes, this one remains balanced and flavorful throughout

Transcendence:
A stroll through a botanical garden.

(automne 2006)

Light amber colored, generous foam and spicy hop aroma with a hint of grapefruit. The taste is very hoppy along with some caramel and citrus. Low carbonation, dry ending and long aftertaste ... very pleasant and overall crisp! One of my favourites!

Good-looking copper amber with ligth red shades. This one is quite similar to the regular IPA. Aroma is more herbal/piny/hoppy while less fruit, which is what I like the most. The mango is less present while you can detect pineapples and grapefruits. Still very nice. Flavor is more bitter, dry and herbal, which makes it less drinkable. The mouthfeel is crisp but could be fuller. My least favourite of the 4 I’ve tried, but still a well-made Imperial IPA.

Amber-orangeish color, with a beige head, leaving laces, coniferous and pine niddles nose, with a sweet candied citrus fruits of grapefruit, flowery hops aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a crisp piney hops character, with some coniferous, cedary notes, hint of grassiness, faint citrus fruitiness, with a subtle caramel malt background, leading towards a floral hops bittering finish.

A hazy amber beer with a nice off-white head. The aroma is lovley sweet and very hoppy. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and an OK hop presence, though not extremely hoppy. The hops gives it some citrus notes, and a dry hoppy end.

Rastacouere (5920) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 28, 2005
Clear light orange, nice white head. Nose and palate are pretty similar, piney with a good bready malt backbone. Highly citrusy, sappy and barky. Good flavor evolution, but it feels a bit sweet despite the sharp bitterness. Generous medium body, fitting carbonation.

Sweet malts, grapefruit and orange tones to the sharp, tangy hop aroma. Clear copper coloured body is topped by a generous and lasting, dense, creamy, off-white head that coats the glass. Head remains intact throughout. Grapefruit and orange citrus hop flavour with strong bitterness (as expected) and equally strong underlying biscuity malts. Hops and sweetness continue to play off each other in the long aftertaste. Medium body with moderate carbonation that is gently effervescent. Enjoyed on tap at the brewpub with Oakes, Rastacouere, St-Eric and Ungstrup.

Vibrant amber colour. Aroma is piney, minty, spicy with a hint of toasty, earthy malts. Fairly full body for its size. Tastes hoppy (citrus, wood) but backing malts. I don’t know if I’d call it imperial by today’s standards, but a solid hoppy beer nonetheless.
