3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Glouglouburp (5568) - Montreal, Quebec, - SEP 4, 2007Black body with a small tan head. Feels very creamy in mouth. Taste is very roasted. Black chocolate and molasses flavours upfront backed-up by some roasted coffee beans. The beer really doesn’t feel sweet so the hops are surely doing an effective job at balancing it although they remain mostly elusive in the aroma and taste. Not much fruity flavours here. Medium carbonation. This is a typical but effective by-the-book Russian Imperial Stout. As straight-forward yet as effective as a “Hi my name is Patricia, wanna screw?” blonde bombshell pick-up line.

Black with brown shades, good looking mocha head. Lots of dark chocolate in the aroma alongside with roasted coffee and a little bit of plums. As for taste, chocolate is more discrete (syrupy) while torrefied coffee takes over. I also detect some licorice and plums. The dry bitter finish makes it less drinkable.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 bedainedebiere (499) - Terrebonne, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 17, 2010
Tap at brewpub. Small head with lasting laces. Generous dosage of hops balance the malt’s roastiness preety aptly. Coffee, chocolate and fruits come out as subtle notes as the hop presence dominates. I liked it quite much. Remembered me Stone’s RIS with a bitterness just a little less thrusting.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 hanniku (13) - Jyväskylä, FINLAND - JUN 18, 2009
Draught at the brewpub. Black color with medium tan head. Abundant and balanced aroma, which has all typical elements of Russian Imperial Stout: some sweetness, roastedness, coffee, chocolate, licorice, caramel, fruits... Also abundant and balanced flavor follows the pattern of the aroma. Because of the generous use of hops, both the aroma and the flavor have clear and pleasant bitter tones. Some warming alcohol completes the wholeness. A long drying and quite bitter aftertaste. A fine exemplar of this beer style (it is actually one of my favorite beer styles). Merci beaucoup Patrick!
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Quevillon (2213) - Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, CANADA - JUL 2, 2007
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Mart (211) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 31, 2007
Corps moyen, texture bien crémeuse, effervescence faible. Excellente.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Miguel (1181) - Saint-Ours, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 9, 2007
Robe noire surmontée d’une mousse brune crémeuse. Arômes de houblon citronné. Saveurs de café, de caramel, de houblon citronné, d’alcool et de sucre.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 rederic (2559) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 31, 2007
Dark black color, with some reddish highlights, and a creamy tan colored head, fruity, raisiny nose, with roasted black malt, with some dark coffee beans roatiness, burnt notes, faint flowery hops in the aroma follows through on a full-bodied palate with a sweet dark fruitiness, and nice roastiness character giving a tough of bitterness, with a dark coffee note, within an alcoholic warmth mouthfell, dark bitter chocolatey accent, leading towards a dry flowery hops bittering finish.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Rastacouere (6044) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 20, 2006
Not opaque, dark brown glow, mounted by an enormous nitro tan foam that avoids movement. Potent fennel nose acts as an axis around which the lush roastiness contrasts from the fruity counterpart. Whereas dark chocolate emanations keep the light away, smoky undertones bring a leather hint that is quickly joined by apricot. Balancing floral and vegetal green hops procure an adequate balance, temporarily immersing the malt aromatics to the back scene, but upon the finish, the brave roastiness eventually shows deeper and with great length. Advanced level of sweetness does not become too unbalancing thanks to a well developed blackberries and dark grapes fruitiness. Smooth nitro feel does not concede metallic flavours, but dulls the carbonation out a fair bit.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Siroy (220) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 20, 2006
[ draught at the brewpub ; chilled ]
A mostly diminushing average creamy tan head that tops up a clear very dark black body. Moderate lacing. No particules. Few medium bubbles Heavy filtration. Aroma presents malt being moderate burnt coffee grains/chocolate while hops are very faint . Also, there are evident traces of liquorice and anis to the nose. Flavor is moderate acetic and confirms aroma. Finish is long and chalky. full body... creamy texture... Soft carbonation...
