This exciting beer is a blend of a strong ale and a porter style beer each brewed in their own way, but married together in a conditioning tank to produce an interesting mix of flavour and aroma.
Major ingredients are:-
Optic Pale Ale Malt, Crystal Malt, Black Malt and pinhead oats. Hops used are English grown Challenger, Fuggles and First Gold

50 cl bottle. Dark clear colour with a nice head. Malty aroma with notes of burned caramel. Smooth flavour of malt, caramel and some fruitness. Not much for an old ale.

TET (2668) - Kaarina, FINLAND - NOV 1, 2008
Dark brown beer with small beige head. Aroma is complex and there are some sweetness, roasted malts, redberries and hint of sourness. Flavour is quite simple after nice aroma: malty, slightly roasted and quite dry. Quite easy and light to drink but still nice. Aroma was promised something special but flavour was quite simple and not-characteristic. Worth to try but propably I don’t buy this anymore.

Mungo (2470) - Southampton, Hampshire, ENGLAND - NOV 13, 2006
Bottle (from Tescos). Ruby coloured. Fruity nose with light roasty malt and hints of earthy hops. Nice combination of light freshness in the mouth and heavier malt flavours. Quite dry but not overly so with pleasantly laid back hops in the finish competing with roasty chocolate for attention. Very interesting but becomes slightly flat in the mouth after a while but the lack of drinkability isnt too much of a problem as this is more of a sipper.

Pretty non existant aroma. Slight stodgy, earthy smell. Dark almost black in colour, has a deep red menacing glow. Off white head. Slight burnt charcoal taste. Watery texture.

Bottle. This is a nice straight forward brew with simple straightforward flavours you expect.

Bottle. Dark ruby coloured with a slim tan head. Vinous, roast malt, fruity and chocolate aroma. Roasted malts and chocolate with some hops in the background. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation. Nice winter beer.

A rating from an old notebook. Bottle. Dark brown with a thin off-white head. A sweet and malty old ale with plenty of dark fruits and chocolate. Not as richly flavoured as some other similar beers but still a very tasty beer.

From the bottle this pours a dark brown with no head and a cola-like carbonation in the beginning, although this gradually subsides. Creamy, sweet caramel and tobacco aromas with roasted, dark chocolate notes. None of these are too obvious at the start but come across well once it beer has aired slightly. Rich burnt malt and chocolate flavours coat the palate. These flavours are comitted to the tongue with a creamy texture. All of these qualities make for a delicious ale that’s varied and especially pleasant on a cool night.
