3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 SilkTork (4736) - Rochester, Kent, United Kingdom, - DEC 22, 2006
Pasteurised bottle from Tesco. A caramel sweet dark beer with roasted notes, but little bitterness. Quite pleasant in that quite pleasant sweet old ale manner reminiscent of Old Peculier. Indeed, it is very much like the bottled Old Peculier. Lacking in character, if not in fizzy cola type flavour, this is nevertheless a drinkable beer.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - APR 9, 2012
500ml Bottle, best before the end of Dec 2011, poured into a vase shaped ’Old Speckled Hen’ badged pint glass on 29 Nov 2011.
Dark cola coloured body, or a ruby red looking beer if you’d prefer. The head a thin covering of tight bubbles, off-white in colour.
Chocolate malty aroma, no hops in the nose that I could find, some pine nut hints though.
Strange taste combination, chocolate malts like the smell, with a fizzy pop (coke) flavour in the mix, I’m struggling to describe this too well: but it’s a blend of two brews which to me don’t go together as well as the brewery might have wanted it too.
As mentioned above, not sure what the brewer wanted from this beer: interesting, different and drinkable, but just lacking something I can’t put my finger on.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Martin243 (242) - Tyne & Wear, ENGLAND - NOV 5, 2011
Cool 500ml bottle, pours dark ruby with a tan head. Aroma of Caramac, (do they still make Caramac?) Well balanced christmas cake fruit flavour, with a hint of licquorice. Full bodied and chewy, I am reminded of Jennings Sneck Lifter with a bit more alcoholic depth. A lovely ale for a winter night.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 ralphdot (612) - Billingham, Durham, ENGLAND - NOV 3, 2011

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 AshtonMcCobb (934) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - OCT 9, 2011
Pours opaque black with a decent cream head. The nose is a mixture of mild chocolate and biscuit flavours. The taste confirms that this is somewhere between a bitter and a stout. The palate is medium to rich in structure and texture and the finish is not bad - it kind of cleans. Overall, not bad but a bit ’caught between styles’ for me.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Joeh (2036) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - AUG 22, 2011
A rating from an old notebook. Bottle. Dark brown with a thin off-white head. A sweet and malty old ale with plenty of dark fruits and chocolate. Not as richly flavoured as some other similar beers but still a very tasty beer.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 25, 2011
Bottle from Tesco Danestone, Aberdeen. It pours dark ruby-brown, with a thin foamy beige head and low carbonation. The nose is bitter chocolate, sweet dark fruit, apple and coffee beans. The taste is bitter chocolate, coffee, blackcurrant, blackberry, plum, currant, apple, toffee and burnt malt, with some dryness in the finish. Nice balance of flavours. A very tasty brew indeed.
