3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On cask at Au Bar.
Appearance - dark brown with red chinks. Nice head.
Nose - toffee and biscuit but you have to search.
Taste - the toffee is there but astringent malt takes over.
Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a dry and slightly astringent finish.
Overall - solid but hard going at times.

Draught. This is a pretty boring bitter without much going for it. I would go for a different tap.

On Handpull @ Coopers Tavern B-O-T. A dark copper coloured ale with a creamy head. Not a great amount of aroma. Full malty palate with lots of subtle roast characters. Trad Scottish Ale, quaffable but not memorable.

Tasted this in the Esquire House, Glasgow (JDW) in November 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Clear copper red in colour with a thick creamy white head. Fruity malt in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Mixed malts give a buttery shortbread biscuit note with a fresh green apple bite. Dry spicy hops evident in the resiny, bitter aftertaste. Good balance of malt and hops in the bitter sweet finish. Reminded me of a strong version of Greenmantle. A robust session export.
