3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle, pours a deep copper red when held to the light, decent light tan head that dissipates after a minute or two. Initial nose is nutty, malty caramel. Sweet, malty and toasty taste giving way to a lightly hopped finish and long lasting warmth. Great! Good balance, tasty and easy drinking.

Consistently sound, Old Jock is an old school Scotch Ale which sits right in the middle of the style. Very well balanced between malt and hop this is awarming beer which hits well above its modest ABV.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
500 ml brown bottle with a BB date stamp of july 2016. Enjoyed May 1st 2015 in Largoward, Fife, Scotland.
6.7% ABV has limited impact on the aroma but does show clearly in the taste and feel. Nicely malty but with enough hops to keep an even sweet/bitter balance. Initially served too cold; improved dramatically with some warming.

Bottle from Aldi. Clear amber body with a thin off-white head. Steady carbonation. Light lacing. Aroma of brambles, plum, copper penny and caramelised sugar. Flavour of syrup, treacle and raisin. Medium body with an oily texture. Soft fizz. I’d like to try this on cask - I can’t believe the reviews are worse than for bottle.

500ml bottle from Asda. Muddy dark amber. Slightly sickly sweet. Warming. Like an easier-drinking McEwans Champion, it's a not bad standby if you fancy something stronger.

Dark Bottle, best before May 2016. Smells slightly of bleach, but mostly sweet. Pours dark caramel, medium brown head, subsiding at an average rate. Taste is yeasty, malty, and delicious. Palette slightly rough, but very inviting. Great.
