3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Boutip (3458) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 22, 2011
Draft: Poured a pitch-black color ale with a small foamy head with light retention and minimal lacing. Aroma consists of roasted malt with notes of semi-sweet dry cranberry and weird spicy notes. Taste is a complex mix between some roasted malt which provides a dry base with some dry fruits notes with some spices to overlay the whole mix. Body is quite full with good carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Interesting and quite the sipper though not sure I would be willing to drink this on a regular basis.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Glouglouburp (4781) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - APR 7, 2011
In short: A strange roasted, chocolaty, fruity and spicy stout. Tasty chaotic beer that is hard to describe.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Black body topped by a very small tan head
In long: Nose is very roasted, fruity and spicy. Same with the taste. The blend of roastiness, fruitiness and spiciness was such that I was having a hard time identifying individual aroma and flavor elements. The spiciness at times felt like those of a mexican dish and at times those of a chinese dish. The strange fruitiness was maybe apples, maybe berries, maybe other stuff. Kind of hard to make up with the high roastiness and chocolaty flavor. Anyway, this is a tasty beer no doubt, but I found it was a beer where flavors were clashing with each other rather than working together. Far from harmonious. Still not bad, but far from my favorite Brouhaha. I won’t have that one again. I didn’t need to drink this beer. Living in a brewpub area like Montreal there are just too many new beers to try all the time and it is starting to be too much work for me to try them all. I’m thinking of outsourcing some of my drinking to India.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (6988) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAR 22, 2011
A dark brown stout with a thin brown head. In aroma, a sweet spiced up chocolate with light berries, light woody notes. In mouth, a very herbaceous concoction, with loads of cloves, thyme, like a chinotto, black pepper, bizarre and challenging. On tap at Brouhaha, March 11 2011.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 SlovakSniper (1349) - Candiac, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 20, 2011
