aroma of caramel, hops, alcohol, and dried fruits, such as figs, and dates. Flavor is quite boozey, but enoyable. The hops mix well with the caramel malt flavors.

Apparence Orange / Cuivré brumeuse, belle petite mousse beige. Aromes d’abricot, caramel, tres houblonné, poivre indien, résine et sel. Balancement extraordinaire, influences d’une DIPA grace a l’infusion a froid d’houblons, houblonné a perfection... Tres haute densité. Gout d’arachides, avocat, caramel, cave, houblon, poivre.

UPDATED: JUN 9, 2009 Draft via randall. Slightly cloudy golden with a thin creamy off-white head. Great retention and above average lacing. Aroma is a ton of hops, mostly citrus and pine with caramel malt that somehow manage to get through this thick wall of hops. Flavor is also amazingly hoppy with citrus, pineapples, mango, pine, toasted malt and alcohol. I haven’t tasted the straight version of this one, but on the randall, this is candy for lupomaniacs. Oily mouthfeel.

A golden amber ale with a thin white head. A herbal aroma, with British hops and vinous notes. In mouth, a barley wine with catnip, mineral qualities, treacle, lots of British hops, a bit light but good. On tap at Brouhaha, March 28 2009.

(Rating #2322)

In short: An alcoholised and simple caramelized and very hoppy Barley Wine.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Clear golden body topped by a small off-white head
In long: Nose is alcohol fumes and construction wood, really. Tastes has some alcohol presence but a less than expected given the strong alcohol fumes of the nose. A whole lot of crisp caramel and a whole lot of resinous hops are the dominant flavour elements here. Not much complexity. Lacks the decadent body of superior barley wines. Below par brew from the usually very good Brouhaha (who specializes in Belgian ales). Like a horny Brussels local, Brouhaha should continue doing Belgians.

Dark amber-orangeish color, with a small white head, yeasty, fruity ripe apple nose, with a faint peachy, orange, apricot esters, with a mild toasty, biscuity maltiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with yeasty, fruity, light sweet liquorish toasty, biscuity, caramelized malt, warmth character, with some mild citrus, candied tangerine, orange peel, flavors, with a brandyish, faint Grand Marnier liqueur accent, and some light flowery hop citrusy leafiness notes, leading towards a warming, sweet toasted, fruity orangey, lingering shy hop bitterness finish.

My Bottom Line:
The hops’ orange pulp and wooden resins are ably balanced by toasted, biscuity malts in this smooth and warming English-style Barley Wine.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A slice of foam decorates the shiny amber.
-The flavor profile is very clean throughout.
-The malt character could use some caramelization (for my tastes in the style, anyway).
-Peppery alcohol heat is found in the aroma and flavor profile.
-Dextrins are kept under control in this Barley Wine, which is not often the case in this usually hefty style.

On tap at Brouhaha.
