3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 13/20 Savvy1982 (1441) - Lethbridge, - NOV 13, 2011
What in the bloody hell is a Voatsiperifery? Regardless, thanks to Dany, part of the Big Box of Saison he so recently sent me. Pours cloudy greenish-amber, 1finger, slowly dissipating white head, nice lacing. Nose is spice, citrus, very grassy hops, lovely "steak spice and black pepper" notes, if rather unusual, which is leading me to pick up a certain garlicky note out of this one. Some florals and perfume, but this really smells like steak spice. Flavours of black peppercorns, citrus, peaches, and a nice chalky character, but Christ almighty are they ever heavy-handed on the spices! Two beers ago I had a chili-pepper infused Imperial Stout and it wasn’t this hot!!! Lord, a fine Saison, ruined, or at least seriously marred, by too much spice.

Bottle @ Armin’s post-Scott’s Summer Saison tasting. Thanks Armin! Clear golden appearance with a white head. Quite floral, a bit herbal tea, somewhat citrusy, lightly spicy aroma. Tangy, dry/bitter floral, grassy herbal, light citrusy flavor. Fairly dry with some stone fruity elements. Not bad.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 tom10101 (209) - Quebec, CANADA - MAY 1, 2012
Bottle 341 ml. Clear golden with a small white head. Some lacing. Nose of belgian yeast, malt, citrus and spices. Taste of pepper at first, followed by strong notes of grapefruit and medium bitterness. Medium duration of aftertaste. Mouthfeel is dry and bitter. Overall, it’s a good representation of the style. Refreshing and drinkable. Pepper is a nice addition.

Bottle 341 ml. Well, this is a though one for me to rate. You see, this beer is mostly about the grapefruit aroma and taste, so if like me, you don’t like it, well you’re gonna have a hard time with this one. But still, that doesn’t keep me from appreciate the many good thing about this one. First, we have a nice appearance: clear golden with almost no white head and some lacing. Other than grapefruit, this beer has a lot of pepper in its aroma, which is very interesting. The taste is well balanced. So, overall, I give kind of a low rating to this one, but if you like grapefruit, well, I am pretty sure you are going to enjoy this one.
Bouteille 341 ml.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 dantheman278 (975) - SCOTLAND - APR 22, 2012
Bottle at cgarvie’s Danish Invasion extravaganza. Slightly hazy yellow, medium frothy white head fades to nothing. Big pungent nose, pronounced white pepper characteristic, hint of ginger even, some citrus zest too. Dry and sherbet-y, again big white pepper, some grapefruit zest, slightly cloying soapy bitter finish. Interesting but not totally successful.

Bottle - 341ml. Beautiful cloudy golden body with a lasting white foamy/pillowy head. Fresh malty/hoppy aroma with coriander, yeasty, and subtle pepper hints. Its sharp hoppy taste carries pepper, coriander and citrusy notes. Ends with a long, dry bitter/spicy finish. Interesting and well done.
2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 kschep (1494) - DENMARK - JAN 8, 2012

2.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 probstblueribbon (1967) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 21, 2011
341 ml bottle from Marche Omni, served at cellar temperature in a tulip glass.
App.: Clear light golden with a frail white head.
Aroma: Wow! Strong peppery, dank green herb, some Belgian yeast and light fruity esters, biscuit and a little floral honey, the spicy pepper note borders on chemical-like and starts to get a little offensive after a while.
Palate: Medium-ish body, quite restrained effervescence.
Flav.: Follows the nose with the odd, love-hate peppery spiciness, green peppercorns, cowering behind this are some nice Belgian notes and biscuit malt; dry with a wallop of bitterness and an oddly abrupt finish.
Yikes. This might be a good cooking beer for...game meats? Not something I’d drink again.
