Bottle - 750ml. Dark brown body with a thin beige foamy/bubbly head. Strong malty/hoppy aroma with vineous, fruity, brown sugar, and oaky hints. Alcohol is present but not too agressive. Its robust taste is well balanced. It carries candy, plummy, and oaky notes. Ends with a long, warming bittersweet finish. Decent Quadrupel.

July 8, 2011 - with blankboy, JoeMcPhee, jerc and mabel. 750ml bottle c/o JoeMcPhee (2010 edition? - it’s 10%). Deep clear ruby-amber with a diminishing creamy/frothy beige head. A little up-front metal in the aroma, but it settles to fruity malt (apple and apricot), low-level spicy yeast, some alcohol presence; a very appealing aroma, but a touch mild. The taste follows, fruity sweet, with a bit of appleseed and dry herbal light bitterness mixed in - again, it’s a little light (7+). Soft, almost airy mouthfeel, average carbonation, finishes a little quickly; perhaps a little thin and simple, but tasty.

750 mL bottle. Dark brown - opaque - with a medium beige head. Smellys yeasty and kinda nutty. Mild. The flavour is a little fuller and more complex. The yeast is still there, cola, a touch of chocolate as it warms. Not a hint of the booze, but there probably should be. Good body. Different, but nothing wrong with it.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some very good lacing. Aroma of light dry fruit with fruity ester and some nice caramelized malt notes is very enticing. Taste is a wonderful mix between some fruity ester with light dry fruits notes with a solid Belgian malt backbone with some caramelized notes. Body is full with great carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Very well brewed with nice level of complexity while retaining a very good drinkability factor.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20 SCP (53) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 15, 2011
Dark brown with low but persistant foam. Sweet plums but the aroma is restrained. Alcohol notes. Soapy notes and it has more nut flavor than usual ABT. Palate is absolutly delicious. Sweet dessert but the little bitteness balances it. Pretty good to me.

Sample at Chambly fest. 2010 vintage most likely.
Appearance : Dark brown with foamy and creamy head
Aroma : Great brown sugar with caramel. Nice spices and nice belgian yeast. Some alcohol.
Taste : Great caramel with brown sugar. Light hops. Finish great brown sugar with nice hops and yeast. Great hops too. Nice bitterness with the brown sugar.
Overall : Humm very nice one. Great rich candy sugar with light caramel notes. Nice yeast presence too. Great balance with the hops. Very complex and tasty. I really don’t get some of the low ratings... maybe some inconsistency with the bottles... Seemed like a fine example of the style.
