Belgian Malt, Imported Noble Hops, Traditional Belgian Ale Yeast
Our Belgian Blond pours a beautifully hazy yellow with a billowy white head. Classic Belgian esters are rounded out by lemon zest, clove, and fresh cut grass. This Blond is balanced and refreshing with a nice dry finish.

500ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Looks good in the glass with crackling head of foam. In the nose there are hints of orange and maybe a bit of spice. All round quite good.

Bottle. Clear golden pour, with a frothy white head. Dry crackers, grian, floral, light grass, and finishes with a sharp metallic bitterness. Ok, refreshing.

Bottle from Whole Foods. Pours hazy straw colored with off-white head. Nose is yeasty funky malt, spicy esters, mild florals. Tastes hopcitric, with yeasty esters, some spice, and a dry, somewhat tart finish.

Bottle. Pours a clear and bright yellow gold body with a large frothy white head that left lots of thin lacing. The nose is soft bready malt with a light hoppiness and a light yeastiness. The flavor is light and quite sessionable with just a touch of floral hop bitterness. Nice soft pale maltiness, a little light spiciness on the finish from the yeast. Light bodied and airy with soft fizzy carbonation. Pretty nice and easy drinking Belgian Ale with just enough flavor to keep it interesting.

Pours a hazy pale golden with a fairly decent eggshell head that settles to a thicker ring and leaves some clingy, soapy lace. Nose involves floral notes, honey, some dusty and lightly funky yeast, citrus and spice. Fairly sweet, fairly bitter, slightly tart. Lighter bodied, decent action, a touch oily, with a lengthy yeasty finish. A nice Belgian blonde, good balance among all the elements. The hoppiness is nice and refreshing. It’s not stunning, but it’s pretty good.

Bottle:   Straw, a little dark, hazy, thin to moderate frothy white head, little lacing.   Moderate straw/hay, a little musty too, barnish.   Grassy, straw and hay, a little wheaty and mealy, light sweetness that dissipates quickly.   Not as bright or bubbley as I would have liked, but still has a decent body.   Finishes pretty flat tho, a touch medicinal and mineral water like.   Pretty much middle of the road example, but without some of the Belgian flair I get in others, without brightness and bubbles.   Meh...

Tap at Eureka Burger in Claremont. Glowing blonde pour with good foam. Funky sweaty nose with bright citrus rind. Warms up to a solid almost all Brett B nose. A nice surprise! Funky body with Brett sharpness, cedar, and grapefruit. Refreshing, dry, stinging Brett carbonation. Actually really nice.

Bottle at Beer Mongers in Portland. Hazed golden wheat body with a medium-sized white head. Strangely phenolic makeup powder, yogurt and coconut shaving aroma. Extremely dirty with a lot of foul plastic notes, oxidized pale malt, grain husks, dehydrated milk powder and green, raw hops. It’s only 5.5% but I get a lot of fusel alcohol from this one. A surprisingly messy beer that even without the overt flaws would be pretty far off from what is considered typical for a golden Belgian ale. The choice of yeast, whatever strain it is, seems to be the biggest problem, as it produced a lot of dirty phenolic aromas and flavor. I was excited to try a Belgian blonde made by a US brewery without any flavorings or treatments. Unfortunately there are so many brewing problems in this beer that it’s rendered undrinkable.
