COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The first batch of our blackberry saison is out for distribution - dog ate my homework, 7% alc/vol with approximately 1lb of fruit per liter. Why Blackberries? Blackberries have a wonderful sweetness that is not TOO sweet or full. They are rich in color and aroma and have a unique drying charcter that is felt across the whole pallet. I am not a fan of sweet beers, so it was important to me that this beer have lots of deep blackberry fruit and a deep respect for the saison’s dry palate.

Bottle from Whole Foods in Davis, CA. Pours dirty/hazy near purple with a foamy 4 finger pink head. Dirty pink. Well, the aroma is sort of soapy dark berry. Med body. Flavor is floral/perfumey dark berry. Saison? It’s sort of soapy, and the earthiness is sort of lost in fruit. It certainly is dry, and that’s a plus. Bottom line: This beer is a new challenge - and we all know there have been lots of challenges in craft beer - so kudos to a step over the event horizon. It’s certainly not going to comfortably fit into saison or fruit beer. Just now my mind is fragmenting over what foods would go with this. I’m thinking Cowgirl Redhawk on oat crackers.

Blue label. It has one of the most beautiful pours I have ever seen, especially when you pour the dregs. It is an opaque purple with a frothy pomegranate/purple head. It has a floral and spicy smell, nice malts, and blackberry too. Flavor comes with a bit more blackberry, The Saison yeast is definitely still dominating with a spiciness. It is tart and tangy and maybe could do with a bit less yeast character, a bit less bitterness, more blackberry and more sweetness and less of a bone dry nature which mixes too much with the bitterness.

Bottle. Pours with a hazed purple hued body with a pink head. Aromas are of wheat, peppery phenols, moderate jammy black berry, and a bit of bugspray. Flavors are medicinal with more specific flavors of dimetapp. Tannic beery seeds, moderately grassy, light phenolics. Lively carbonation, very dry finish.

Pours a pinkish red with a fluffy pink foam. Berry notes and a touch of wine in the aroma. Taste has a slight touch of sweetness followed by the acidic tang of the blackberry. Sharp and a bit dry at the back of the mouth.

Citrus and fruity out the bottle as it’s hitting the glass. Bright pink head that foamed like champagne. Tangy sugar, but leveled out well with kinda bitter after taste. It reminds me of a light sangria. I was pretty skeptical about a blueberry beer but this is pretty damn good.

It’s smell is sharp and light. It’s color is a rosy amber with an active pink head, It’s taste is fruity with a dry spice finish. Full of tart blackberry flavor but the spice cuts it back to intention. The dry finish leaves my palate refreshed but anticipating another sip. It is full of flavor it takes a few sips to appreciate all of its aspects. Great for spring and summer.

On tap at Jupiter Sour Sunday. Pours very red with a thin pink head and a berry aroma. There is a nasty blackberry flavor that blocks out any attempt at a saison-like taste. However, the beer is drinkable if you are looking for a modest fruit beer.

A reddish-purple pour with a pink head. Nice blackberry aroma and a mild tartness of lemon zest. Lots of fruity sweetness, some sugar, grass, and straw. There isn’t much malt to the aroma or flavor. Sweet blackberry flavor, light lemon zest tartness, and some hints of sugar. Perhaps a touch of water to the flavor, grass, straw, and yeast.

Tart taste, you definitely get the blackberries. Overall pretty good, though I’m not that familiar with fruit beers.
