Tmoney99 (3819), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Feb 28, 2006 Draft at BB. Poured a dark brown with an average creamy light brown head that diminished slowly and had good lacing. Good roasted malt and a sweet bourbon aroma. Medium body. Heavy toffee and bourbon complex flavor with a smooth long finish. Good complex brew. Cletus (3594), Connecticut, USA Apr 14, 2008 Pours dark brown with a tan head. Smells of bourbon, raisins, lots of sweet malt. Tastes spicy and lightly soured with some bourbon and mild alcohol presence. Nice! Retorp (2156), Tampa, Florida, USA May 30, 2007 Courtesy of Kevster. Thanks, Kevin. The aroma is very roasty a with a substantial bourbon presence and ample chocolate notes, but very little burnt/roast highlights. The body is black with ruby hues and a diminishing tan head. Fore is very thin and holds gobs of milk chcoolate notes, milder bourbon than in the aroma and that pineapple/coconut like flavor that comes from the mixing of bourbon and oak. Not the world’s best, but enjoyable enough. TAR (2014), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA Feb 26, 2006 Growler: Blackened brown. Dense ring of tan foam. Tangy nose of tannins, rhubarb, coconut, and plums. Hints of smoke, toffee pudding, and coffee. Quite hoppy. Soft carbonation. Opens with a tannic edge of acidity and crispy burnt malt notes. Roasted malts pack a robust punch and beef up the soft body. Coconut and vanilla are evident, but the bourbon elements never cause it to become soppy, husky, or overly sweet. Toasted oak eventually overrides the bourbon character, which happens to be utilized quite well to begin with. Substantial hop bitterness is nice, but yields lots of citric notes which, unfortunately, throw some unpleasant acidity that keep the richer malt elements from peaking. Tannins remain subdued and perfectly complement the lush cakey malt aspects. The softness is soon replaced by firm touches of char and tannins before finishing with a gentle dusting of ashen malts, roasty bitterness, and understated yet effective bourbon sweetness. A pretty nice example. Just needs more age to thicken the malts and lessen the hop character. Ibrew2or3 (2003), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA May 16, 2007 Another rare bomber brought by Kevster, thanks.

It pours deep deep brown with thin head. Sizable aroma of coffee, sweet molasses, hints of toffee and nice wood aromatics too. There are some neutral flavors to start and then molasses sweetness and coffee start to stand out. Then as the taste moves to the midway point hints of bourbon and wood enter the picture. There’s also a slight tartness in there as well. Ends a bit thin.
