npdempse (932), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA Aug 19, 2007 Hazy brown/amber with a very small head. Delicate aroma with a good bit of honey, some tobacco and cherry notes. Flavor is quite sweet, with much of the character of a nicely aged English barleywine--tobacco, walnuts, honey, cherry. Good dry bitterness finishes it off. Surprisingly impressive. antzman (307), Clarksville, Indiana, USA Apr 13, 2007 Bottle. I’ve had this on draft before, but bottled is a whole new experience. Dark amber with a full off white head. The aroma is very malty, with dark fruits, and a bit of alcohol. The flavor is malt heaven. Very sweet even at a young age, with a ton of malts. The Shag bark syrup gives it a great boost. I can’t wait to age these a while and see how they change. wheninhell (482), louisville, Kentucky, USA Apr 9, 2007 On tap at Brownings on Feb. 19th. clear amber with a nice off white head. nice lacing. malty dried fruit aroma with a light touch of hops and a hint of smoke. sweet dried fruit flavor...very malty some honey and molasses flavors....light bitter hop notes. fairly sweet finish with a light hop bitterness. full body. The beer has been entered as 11% alcohol......the assistant brewer told me that it was 13%. for either the alcohol level didnt seem outrageous. its interesting how the ratings of this beer have increased over a month. I need to get back to brownings to try this one again. I was very impressed. Pours a lovely plum color, small off white head. Looks like a barley wine should. Aromas of sweet candied fruits, brown sugar, molasses, diacetyl. Flavor is more of the same, with the sweetness coming through the most. Sticky, cloying mouthfeel. FInish is medium length. Didn’t seem at all like 11%. Nice beer, I liked it quite a bit more than their Imp Stout. TomDecapolis (2619), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 23, 2007 Thanks to hatchy for sharing this rare one during a brew session. Pours a hazy brownish amber with a smaller creamy off white head that left some lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, malty sweetness, the hickory syrup, Flavor of toast sweet malts, hickory syrup, dark fruits, vanilla, some oxidation and caramel malt.
