Pours dark, dark brown with tints of ruby red on the edges and a large, fluffy, brown head. Smells sweet and roasted, hints of coffee and chocolate are present. Tastes roasted and sweet, chocolate and oats, no real bitterness is present. Medium-bodied with a smooth texture and mild mouth-carbonation, Brown’s Oatmeal Stout finishes sweet like an oatmeal stout should.

12 oz. bottle. Pours dark brown, not black, with a thin-moderate somewhat fizzy tan head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left light lace. Very pleasant aroma of chocolate, coffee and roasted malt. The flavor falls back a bit from the aroma with predominantly roasted malt and only trace amounts of chocolate and coffee. A bit spritzy on the palate due to the carbonation, which is not at all what I would want in an oatmeal stout. Medium bodied.

Serious toffee, hazelnut and brown sugar. Serious molasses. Deep dark brown, almost black. Minor head. Roasted chocolate and coffee. Mocha and nutty flavors. Stone fruit sugars for balance. Touch of boozy Bourbon alcohol at the end. Smooth and oily. Ashy finish. Outstanding and roasted and sweetish too. Lovely.

A - Pours a dark black-brown color with a finger of brownish-head. The head has pretty good retention and laces nicely on the glass. S- Lots of roasted carmel malts and some really nice sweetness from the oats. There is also some chocolate notes in the background with a tad of coffee. T - Starts off with some nice toasted carmel malt and the oat flavor mixing nicely. There is also a touch of cocoa in the background. Through the middle the roasted flavors really come out and there is even a little bot of coffee flavor along with it. The finish is a mix of the roasted carmel malts and sweet oat flavor alongside some lingering roasted flavors. M - A little bit more than medium bodied with light carbonation. Super smooth and silky. Almost slides through the mouth. But really watery at all. D - Very drinkable. The flavors are really nice, and while there is sweetness, it is well balanced and never feels like too much. The mouthfeel is really fantastic.

Really just a great stout. 12oz bottle given to me by a friend with good connections up there in Troy. Deep brown color with nice sweet coffee and roasting aromas. Just a touch of chocolate. The taste does allow for a bit of oatmeal to come through making for a unique flavor. Balanced and delicious stout.

Bottle from Half Time. Pours black with a 4 finger fizzy/foamy dark tan head. Aroma is sweetish burnt malt with a chocolate lilt. Med body with fizzy carb. Flavor is not all that sweet. Theres a lot of dark malt flavor, with mere hints of chocolate and coffee. There’s a dryish/cereal aspect in the finish. Not bad, just nothing I can previously recall.

Deep rich brown coloured body with an almost fully-opaque glow. Nice thinnish (one centimetre) tan head tops the beer. Aroma of meat, mushrooms, caramel, raisins and a touch of concord grapes - interesting. Full-bodied; Effervescent mouthful with a sweet potent kick of grapes and sugars, not even caramelised, but strong hints of nuts and light malt at the tail end. Aftertaste is relatively mild with only sweetness and a touch of malt at the very end. Overall, not much of a ’typical’ oatmeal stout - more of a sweet stout as the style shows here on RateBeer, but a relatively mild and underwhelming beer, even for this style. Worth trying if you like stouts and want to try something new - it’s not bad at all, just a bit typical for the smallish brewery and actual style of beer (not what the label pretends). I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Oliver’s Beverage in Albany, New York on 04-September-2010, sampled at home in Washington on 14-September-2010.

Sampled at SAVOR 2010. Pours a watery, opaque black with some thin, off white head. Nice, sweet, malty aroma, oats, grains. Flavor is sweet, sugar, tasted like under attenuated wort. Finish is water.
