To honor the water source from which all Brown’s Ales & Lagers are made , the Tomhannock Resevoir. Brewed in the traditional style that originated in Pilsen, Czechoslovakia, our Pils is brewed using Saaz Hops (for bittering and later dry hopped during lagering for aroma). Pilsner Malts, and a yeast strain that is used to ferment some of the finest Pilsners in the world combined with the Pilsen -- like the soft water of Troy’s Tomhannock Reservoir. A portion of each pint goes to the Rennselaer Land Trust, to strengthen their watershed education programs.
Malts: Pilsen, White Wheat and Carapils
Hops: Saaz

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2007 In short: Generic pub Pilsner of average quality
How: Tap at brewpub. Jul 2006 (2.4/5). Much better in Dec 2007 (this rating)
The look: Clear yellow blonde body with a little white ring.
In long: First try in 2006 had an unpleasant plastic flavour. Re-sampled 1.5 years later. Lots of cereals, crisp honey, well balanced by a medium amount of medium-dry grassy hops. A little lemon/citrus touch as if the hopping was not all classic noble hops. Light and short bitterness. Comfortable body and medium carbonation. Easy to drink thirst quenching beer with no default/problem. Plays safe and stays on the beaten path, and after sampling many of the beers at this brewpub I recommend you do the same, play safe and stay on the beaten path.

Draught sample at the brewpub. Clear pale yellow with a wisp of lasting head....quite pleasant, fresh though unremarkable Saaz-y nose, with toasty bread and honey present....bready (but not doughy), dry, crisp and very clean character in the body, with some nice sharp sour apple-citric attacking bitterness amidst the grassy clean pale malty goodness....full yet quite light and refreshing, extremely drinkable and stimulating.

ABUSEDGOAT (2605) - California, USA - AUG 27, 2005
UPDATED: AUG 28, 2005 Tap @ brewpub: light golden body, heavily carbonated, slightly hazy. Aroma is slightly sour bit also grassy hops. Finishes crisp and very bitter for the style. After having quite a few failed beers here this one was a surprise, but not a prize.

Poured golden and effervescent with a creamy white head. Aroma is of clean hops. Taste has corn notes and a touch of lemon. Somewhat smoky aftertaste with a hint of toffee. A decent pilsener, and a better one of the Brown’s offerings.
