Had it at the brewery with dinner. Pours a dark brown color with a small tan head. You can easily taste the malts and of course, some whiskey in the taste as well. Not too heavy on the whiskey, but it goes down smooth. I’d say it’s one of Brown’s best offerings, very tasty.

Bottle. Pours dark brown to black with thin off-white head, which quickly dissipates. Aroma is lacking but is malty with notes of chocolate and graham cracker. Palate i a bit thin and watery. Not much whiskey flavor. Some chocolate and a bit roasty. Overall, not as good as anticipated.

Draft. Pours a brown dark body with a thin tan head. Some wood, not much whiskey, light chocolate and chalky. Roasty bitter finish. Not great.

Sample courtesy of the owner, Gary Brown. Pours near black with a soft beige foam atop. Woody and malty nose. Taste is sweet and roasted with maybe some slight vanilla.

Deep clear brown pour covered by a 1cm, slowly diminishing brown head. Blueberry reminiscent, peaty, soapy nose. The malts’ roastiness have been mostly eaten out by the whiskey. Rather dull, perhaps a bit toasty malt character. Soft carbonation, light-medium body. Sweetish, woodsy, anise-like. I can’t say I found this beer all that enjoyable, but it had the big advantage of being tasty compared to most of their other offerings.

In short: A nice woody and dry porter
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Dark brown body with a medium tan head
In long: A little smoke on the nose. The whiskey barrels really shows in this one. Not the whiskey part but a lot of woody barrel. Dry wood, dry liquorice, roastiness. The wood and roastiness make for a floury/powdery sensation similar to cacao but without much chocolate taste. Undoubtedly the best beer I’ve had at this pub although it had about as much competition as a 6’6” dude at a 100 meter dash midget race.

Tap @ the brewpub. Poured an almost opaque black with a ruby edge and creamy beige head. The aroma is mildly sweet with a light roast and dullness to it. The whiskey is very subtle and mostly on the tail. The flavor was roasty first with some light coffee in the middle.

A nice porter, made particularly smooth thanks to the "cask conditioning". More coffee flavour than chocolate, this porter is definitely tasty.

Sampled at the brewery. It’s a porter; the fact that it was from a cask didn’t save it for me.
