3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber from Half Time. Pours very dark brown/black with a slight tan head. Aromas of chocolate and wood. Near full bodied. Lively carbonation. Flavor is caramel/treacle followed by chocolate and oaky wood. With time it goes oakly astringent. Flavor stays constant, but there is a little smooth burnt malt to go with the oak and chocolate. A little vanilla/bourbon is always lingering. It’s almost tart. Suggests it’s going to go sour, but there’s just too much malt for that to be convincing. All in all it’s a little complex, and a damn fine ale.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by alexsdad06. Poured a clear dark brown color with an average frothy brown head that mostly lasted and produced good lacing. Moderate to heavy toasted malt, tobacco and bourbon aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy toasted dark malt flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. This is the complex out of balance brew.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
April 2004. Dark brown ale with moka head. Light vanilla aroma. Roasted malts and bitter chocolate taste. Watery light bodied which would benefit from malt injection.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Deep brown pour. The nose has a nice aroma of cocoa, light coffee and a soft oaky aroma. A little bit of bourbony sweetness on the nose. Fairly light-bodied through the middle with a kiss of char flavour on the finish. Lingering cocoa and whisky on the back of the palate that helps accent the dark malts. There is a light flavour of plums as it starts to warm up. Pretty solid.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: DEC 18, 2007 Licorice-like sweetness, surely a combination of the whiskey barrel and the chosen malt bill, rounds off the molasses and delicate roastiness...Some fruitiness adds complexity within the healthily round body, and a drinkable sweet libation is created...Soft, flavorful and huggable, this Porter remains one of their best beers, imho...

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
22 ounce bottle courtesy of Kinz. Thanks! Sampled at the 11th Richmond Ratebeer Gathering, 4/17/10. Pours a clear reddish brown color with a medium creamy offwhite head. Decent head retention and lacing. The aroma is very strong bourbon with notes of toffee, oak and hops. The taste is bourbon, leafy hop notes with some bitterness, faint roasty notes. Some peppery wood notes. Also a weird vegetal note almost like roasted red peppers. Medium bodied. Decent.
