mouse725 (40), Albany, New York, USA Aug 10, 2007 A nice porter, made particularly smooth thanks to the "cask conditioning". More coffee flavour than chocolate, this porter is definitely tasty. Brown and slightly cloudy. This had a nice barrel aged smooth character too it, with slight whisky notes. Rather roasty and clean. Pwn3d (600), NYC, New York, USA Apr 27, 2008 Sample courtesy of the owner, Gary Brown. Pours near black with a soft beige foam atop. Woody and malty nose. Taste is sweet and roasted with maybe some slight vanilla. MartinT (4330), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Apr 29, 2004 Updated: Dec 18, 2007Licorice-like sweetness, surely a combination of the whiskey barrel and the chosen malt bill, rounds off the molasses and delicate roastiness...Some fruitiness adds complexity within the healthily round body, and a drinkable sweet libation is created...Soft, flavorful and huggable, this Porter remains one of their best beers, imho... Glouglouburp (1943), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 18, 2007 In short: A nice woody and dry porter
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Dark brown body with a medium tan head
In long: A little smoke on the nose. The whiskey barrels really shows in this one. Not the whiskey part but a lot of woody barrel. Dry wood, dry liquorice, roastiness. The wood and roastiness make for a floury/powdery sensation similar to cacao but without much chocolate taste. Undoubtedly the best beer I’ve had at this pub although it had about as much competition as a 6’6” dude at a 100 meter dash midget race.
