2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bummer. Bottle is best before end of March 2013. Pours dirty blonde with a fugly head with huge bubbles. Smell is light cloves and a wood-like (madeira) aroma makes an appearance too. Hops are nowhere to be found neither in nose or mouth. Taste is cardboard, some belgian sugar and a little spices. This beer is dead I think. RIP :(

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Aroma of malts, cereal, honey, and a touch of bitter. Poured beautifully cloudy vibrant amber color, very strong head which evaporated neither quickly nor slowly. Taste was a little disappointing, very smooth, malts, honey, wood, good but nothing impressive and not very intense, almost lager like. Medium body and carbonation, with a lesser bitter finish. Enjoyed it but for the price i would have liked more, didn’t live up to other Belgian ales I’ve tried.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bruegel has a very thick, foamy, rocky, off-white head and a hazy, golden appearance, with lots of heavy lacing left behind and a good amount of streaming bubbles in the beer. The aroma is of sweet brown bread, bread crust, and toffee. Taste is of those elements, with a tea aspect and mild bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium and slick, and Bruegel finishes semi-dry, sweet, and pleasant. Overall, this is a nice, well-made beer, and I rate it as being excellent. RJT

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours cloudy amber with an thin white head. Very bready, cereal aroma, with almost no detectable hop aroma. Taste is about the same with some nondescript hop bitterness at the end. Drinkable, but not what I was hoping for.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Innocuous Belgian Amber Ale. Average aroma, no remarkable notes, pretty ordinary lager smell. Yellow-orange color, light white head. Some light yeast taste, a bit watery and thin body. Very forgettable. I love the label too bad the beer doesn’t live up to it.

2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20
Bottle with best before of 01/04/11 to Chimay trappist glass. This should be interesting....
Aroma: Old beer smell...I can’t describe what it smells like but every beer that’s got some real age has it. Sweet caramel, herbal, butterscotch, almonds, liquorice, a heavy floral element, and faded stale malts.
Appearance: Cloudy amber with a white head, very coarse bubbles make up the head...which did not stay long.
Taste: Malts...but stale malts. Sweet caramel and butterscotch flavours. Wet cardboard and a metallic/sour aftertaste. Quite almondy/woody.
Palate: Thin, some carbonation, the beer is quite heavy in the mouth and the stale malts linger.
Overall: Can’t properly rate this with the beer being clearly past it’s prime but I enjoy aged beers...there’s something about them that I find interesting.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
UPDATED: JAN 27, 2013 Amber (surprisingly), clear, patchy and thin white head, looked nice; yeasty, orange citrus aroma; orange citrus flavour too along with caramel malt and a slightly roasted edge; soft mouthfeel; quite a dry finish; ok if unremarkable Belgian which oddly reminded me of wine gums (orange and green, especially).
