COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bruegel is an easy drinking soft and tasty amber ale. Thanks to the refermentation it offers more body, more head and more taste than most other American and Belgian Amber ales. It is brewed with Dutch barley and German hops. Although the bitterness is clearly present, it is not dominant.

Bottle. Large, creany/smooth ivory head, fair lacing, transparent, carbonated, and an orange hue. Malty, fruity and spicy aroma. Malty and caramel flavor. Mouthfeel was a little tingly. Medium bodied beer. Worth a try.

UPDATED: AUG 21, 2011 I have had this beer a couple of times with mixed results. This rating was for one of the better bottles. +++ Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer pours a hazy reddish amber color with a large tan head that lingers. There is a mild sweet and sour scent. The beer is heavily carbonated - which is something I do not really care for. The aroma was sweetish with notes of apple and pear. The flavor is mildly sweet and had notes of pear and apple with a peppery and yeasty undertone. The finish was medium length and the body slightly to the thick side of medium. This is a decent beer. The comment that came up at the table was that this was a beer you could easily drink all night, but that would not inspire you to really seek it out.

Malt and yeast smells. Peach shade, good head, continuous carbonation. Malt sweetness, small tongue tingle. Smooth. Pleasant, average.

Bottle. Poured a clear amber with an off-white head. Aroma was full of sweet malts with caramel and grain coming through. Flavor had a strong metallic note that over powered the malt flavors in the aroma.

Explosive head ... all over my kitchen counter. Cloudy and amber-orange. Dusty, can-like nose. Light malts and light yeast aromas. Sharply citric and metallic with notes of orange and lemon. Slightly tart, maybe even sour at times. Dryish finish. Relatively easy to drink, but not complex or very flavorful.

A chalky, cocoa-laced, diacetyl, slightly smokey aroma with a bitter-style malt current. Nice label, very clear rosy brownish beer with a thinnish lacy head. Moderately sweet, fairly tart without fruitiness, latent bittering, some astringency. Lingering astringent bitterness in the finish. Medium to medium-light body. Session.

Buttery, yeasty, biting aroma. Smooth orange appearance with a subtle head. Flavor was buttery with a touch of hops but lacking in complexity and finish. Palate felt a touch watery. Not too bad... I’d put it higher than most other 50th percentiles I’ve had.

The real Bruegel was a master. This beer is not a master, but it is a decent basic beer that benefits from everything the Belgians do well. The appearance is wonderful--a sea of head, billowing and white, lacing nicely on the sides of the glass, and remaining in some quantity for quite some time. Hazy amber color. The aroma strikes me as the typical Belgian: clove, other spices, banana. My wife thought it had a bit of good bees wax to the aroma. The flavors were similar but weak--watery flavor profile, lacking much depth or any finish. The palate wasn't bad: a hint watery but a lively carbonation too. I was not struck by any marked sweetness or sourness that others might find. Overall, a beginners' Belgian, but it has a good fundamental composition (in need of sprucing up).
